2nd Trimester

Boss Vent

So my boss just waited until everyone else had left for lunch (I stayed to answer phones) and then ripped my a$$ because I didn't pick up extra hours last week.  It was the first time in the year that I've worked here that I've not been able to work more hours than I was originally scheduled to help out the department.  She has kept me part time for an entire year (no benefits and accruing the bare minimal amount of PTO which will be the only pay I receive during my mat leave) but expected me to be able to work 40+ hours a week whenever she needed it. Of course the times I could have really used the extra hours it "wasn't in her budget".  It just pisses me off because she admitted to me last week that our administrator gave her the go ahead to make me full time as of the first of this month. I had already told her I REALLY need to pick up benefits as we have been paying 500/month for COBRA since May, but she said she didn't have the money in her budget (she would lose her end of year bonus) so she is waiting till the new budget year in September! But then she told me she would need me to work full time starting immediately for this new project she scheduled...I just won't get the benefits or PTO time.  Last week was my last week as a part time employee and we have DH's two sons for two weeks so we planned a mini vacation. So when she asked on Wednesday to work Thursday and Friday (not scheduled days for me) I told her we were going to be out of town and I wouldn't be able to come in. She acted like it was no big deal and then just had a total melt down on how she expected me to be more available in the future to meet the needs of the department and she really needed me here more last week.  Well...I really need to pay less than $500 every month for insurance so you can pretty much pucker up and kiss my a$$ lady!

Re: Boss Vent

  • That sucks.  It sounds more like she's using you, and now dangling a carrot above you're head by saying she has the approval for your Full-time job.  I have to say, I seriously doubt it.  If you think about it, how can she get approval from corporate to make you full time, and yet, she has no budget for it.  Doesn't the budget come down from corporate too?  I think's she's yanking you and I would let her know that you're sorry you were not available to cover last week, but you had planned time off, and need more adaquate notice in the future for overtime.

  • That is pretty much what I said to her.  Our new fiscal year starts in September and we were able to get another full time job added to our department.  Admin even gave her the go ahead to go over budget for the rest of this year and hire me full time as of July 1...but she would lose part of her bonus for meeting budget. I thought the same thing at first so I verfied it with Admin before I started counting my chickens!
  • Hang in there, and I hope you get great news in Sept!  Big Smile

  • kind of related but not really - there was a thing on the Today show last week about how women bosses typically mistreat other women.... seems like that is the case here. Is she single?  Just wondering?
