Unbearable charlie horse pain?

So, I just got woken up by the worst pain I've ever felt in my life!  I've had plenty of charlie horses in my life but this one tops the cake.  It hurt so bad I started crying and became immobile for about 30 minutes.  Has anyone else experienced these to this intensity and what do you do to make it better?  I've tried flexing the muscle and it makes it worse.

  • Try eating bananas.

  • Eat bananas. The baby is probably sucking your potassium.

  • Eat Bananas, try some Gatorade before bed.

Honestly, I've tried every home remedy (stretching before bed, bananas, potatoes, everything) and I still get them. I used to get them right around the time AF would visit, but now that I'm pregnant, I get at least one a week. I got five in one night! But, if I were to recommend anything, it would be the stretching. It really does lessen the chances of them happening.

  • Yes I wake up in the middle of the night with this! But it is only in my left calf so far and I don't think as painful as you are experiencing. I also just read about this on babycenter. All they say is to do what you are doing stretch it out. DH will get up and rub my leg for me and that helps out alot! DH's theory is that I am not drinking enough water so you could increase your water and see if that works.
  • Flex your foot in the opposite direction - so if its in your calf, pull your toes towards you. This seems to help them stop sooner. I always thought it was low potassium & to eat bananas. But today my acunpunturist told me its from lack of calcium/vitamin D, which the baby is sucking from me at a high rate of speed during this time period apparently. So she told me to up those supplements.

  • I've always been told it was lack of Calcium/Vitamin D as well.  I've been getting them the last few nights and I know I've been slacking on my dairy.

  • I feel your pain, it's almost an every night occurance.  The Dr. said I may need potassium (which would be bananas) and or calcium.  I started walking in the afternoons w/ the hubby and that seems to help a smidge.

I read the same thing about the calcium and vitamin D, I think I'm going to try to get an extra supplement with my prenatal and see how that works.  Thanks!!!
