anyone been induced at Hershey?

We're going to talk induction at tomorrow morning's 40-week appointment, and we'll likely schedule something for later this week or early next.

But I realized last night I have no idea what induction may involve.  Anyone been induced at Hershey who could give some perspective?  Do they try suppository first?  Are you in the hospital the whole time?

Re: anyone been induced at Hershey?

  • I haven't been induced at Hershey, but I was "induced" for high blood pressure around 39w.  I use quotation marks because I only received the prostaglandin gel, never pitocin, and that alone put me into active labor.  At my hospital the pg wasn't given as a suppository, but as a gel in three rounds.  I believe that whether or not you are given the prostaglandin depends on how soft your cervix is prior to the induction not necessarily anything specific to the hospital.  Having said that, with my next pregnancy if I don't go into labor on my own, I'm going to request the pg gels (no mater what my cervix is doing) as I know that they have the ability to put me into labor.  Why go through the pit. if it isn't necessary?  I hope that helps even though it didn't answer your specific question.

I can't believe you are this close to the end already!  Good luck to you.  You'll be holding your little man in no time!

  • My friend is a Labor and Delivery nurse at Hershey and I know that when I've talked to her about induction before, she said that at Hershey, they give you the gel first and you have to stay in the hospital from that moment on.  Other hospitals, like Harrisburg, will send you home after the gel.  GL!
  • I just wanted to say good luck to you over the next couple days!   I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience . . we'll be delivering there too in what I hope is a long two months from now.
  • Thanks innerpeace -- good to know!
  • I was induced at Hershey and was only given Pitocin, however my situation was drastically different since I was induced at 34 weeks. They of course kept me and baby monitored the whole time and I ended up with a emergency c-section after 18 hours on the Pitocin and I never dilated at all.  Of course with me they were only doing a very low drip since Gunnar's heart rate kept dropping and not re-exelerating.  I guess I'm really no help.
