I am new to CDing, and I love it. I was one of those who envisioned white gerber prefolds, diaper pins and plastic pants when someone said CD to me a few months ago. After doing the research and trying it, I am kicking myself for not researching and trying sooner. It truly is so easy!
I am just curious because of the recent posts with CD negativity from others:
What percentage of moms in your area do you think use CDs at least part time? I am curious if it is more popular in different areas of the country.
What do you do to show people that it is not what they think it is? Are you an advocate for CDing within your social groups?
Do you think it is an up and coming/reemerging trend? Or is it so uncommon that most people have no clue? I only ask because there is a definite market for CDs on the net. Love the cute stuff!
Re: What do people in your area think of CDing?
It's hard to talk percentages, but I know two families in the area who do CD, one who is thinking about it for her nb, and two who are definitely won over for when they have a baby, and to be honest, I don't have a lot of friends who have young children. We live in a slightly crunchier area, and I tend to work and hang out with people who are a bit more EF or at least aware, so even when I've talked with coworkers who have older kids, some of them did CD, and most of the others are very open and receptive to it. My MIL (who is not in the area) is actually more of a CD evangalist than I - she's given several young women information about CD's that she's gotten from us as well as information about the bump being a good place to find out more about CDing.
I've only had one naysayer (my BFF, to be honest) and she will never consider cloth, even though I showed her the BG's. That's fine - I shall live.
I know of 2 other families that CD here, and that's out of a lot of baby classes/groups/clinics/etc. So I don't know a percentage, but think it's pretty low.
I've never had any negative comments. I've had a few positive ones - both older women. And a few curious comments from younger women. But mostly it's not something people either think about or comment on. We just get on with our babies and don't talk about it, you know?
