silly questions perhaps, but i'm 2 weeks away from my due date and a few last minute freak out questions are coming up... i know i know...but anyhoo... do we swaddle in the summer months or is it to hot for baby? tia
we swaddle...it helps him sleep much better. we just do a onesie underneath. plus we have the AC on so even though it hot out...its pretty cool in our home.
We still swaddle DD in the summer-she wakes herself up if she's not. We have a window unit AC in the living room, so it doesn't get as cool in the bedroom as I would like. On really warm nights we only put a diaper on her, then swaddle. If it's not too hot we dress her in a onesie.

My baby was very difficult if we didn't swaddle her and now won't sleep w/o a sleep sack. If it's warm but not warm enough for the ac we just leave her in a diaper or onesie.
you pretty much have to swaddle, or else they wake themselves up when they twitch and their arms flail around. it's cute to watch like the first ten times but then it isn't fun getting them back to sleep! we got fabric in squares that's really really lightweight and we use that. you can go to a fabric store and buy very lightweight white cotton fabric and have it hemmed on the sides. it works really really well.
We swaddle and DD wears a footed sleeper underneath every night. She sleeps best like that. It's in the 100's here pretty much every day but we have the a/c on 71 at night and a ceiling fan on.
Not all babies like it. My DS struggled to get free and freaked out until I took it off. However, if your LO does like it, do it.
The guideline is to dress baby in one more layer than you are wearing. So even in summer (especially if you have AC) swaddling would work just fine over a onesie or pjs.

thanks soooo much for all of your responses guys, really appreciate it.
Brings me to my next question, do you use special swaddling blankets or just use receiving blankets?
