Glyburide and low sugar

I was put on Glyburide about 5 days go and I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.  Yesterday I took my hubby to work and then had to stop at walmart for a few things.  I ate breakfast at 8 that morning and got home at 1 to eat lunch.  Well my sugar had gotten low, my hands were shaky and I felt a little dizzy so I made my lunch as fast as possible to get my sugar back up.  Well what I wanted to know was if anyones hand has ever gotten tingly or numb when their sugar got low?

Re: Glyburide and low sugar

  • Yes, that happened to me. I carry a granola bar in my purse now. Did you test yourself before you ate? It didn't occur to me before I ate that it was low sugar, so I didn't, but I should have... more information for the doctors, KWIM?

Did you eat a snack? If I went from 8-1 without eating I have no doubt my sugar would crash hard! Snacks are really, really important. Do you have a dietitian who goes over that stuff with you?

  • Yeah I have a dietitian but I'm never hungry for a snack and she said it was ok.  I usually don't go that long from breakfast to lunch so I usually don't have any problems.  I didn't test myself only bc I was in a panic to get my sugar back up.  I've only had my sugar go low 2 times, once before my hand went numb which I did check that day and it had gone down to 60 and then the day my hand went numb.  OH and I have to keep record of when my sugar does go low for the drs.
  • I'd get clear parameters from the nutritionist about the max time you can go without eating or testing. Even if you are not hungry at 10/10:30a for a snack, if you tested and it was significantly lower than your 1hr post breakfast test, it would tell you that you NEED to have a snack that day and head off a potential low, KWIM?
