I know this isn't technically constipation, but when our little guy goes a long time without pooping the pedi had us take his temp rectally the first time, but said not to do it all the time. Now she said if it's been 5-7 days to give him 1 oz. of prune juice in a bottle. So far 5 days is the max he's gone so we haven't had to do the prune juice yet.
suppositories. it's oil and just greases up the works, so to speak. it doesn't pass through their system or anything and isn't habit forming--newborns often don't know yet how to control their muscles down there so don't yet know how to push it out. they work within a couple of minutes--fabulous!
Re: What do you do for constipation?
Our pediatrician recommended giving a teaspoon of Dark Karo Syrup in our LO's bottle. It seemed to help him and worked pretty quickly.
HTH!
