Sprained my ankle, in so much pain!!!!

I sprained my ankle last night and am in so much pain.  Is there anything else besides tylenol i can take??

Re: Sprained my ankle, in so much pain!!!!

  • Are you taking extra strength already?  My doc said I could after 1st tri.  Other than that, I don't know of anything.  I'd call the doc's office and see.  I'm SO SORRY you're in so much pain....sprained ankles are awful!  Sad

  • I took tylenol, but I can't sit, stand or anything, I hate it!!
  • Are you sure it is sprained?  Sprains are painful but so are fractures and torn ligaments both of which need treatment.  Have you been to the doctor?

If you have, all you can really do is keep it elevated and ice it for 20 minutes max at a time. Ice will help - I promise!

  • No I have not been to the dr.

    Maybe I should go.

  • Can you bear any weight on it?

How is your range of motion?

  • No I can't bear weight without extreme amounts of pain and I can move it a little but it hurts.

  • Time to go to the doctor.
  • If you really can't bear any weight on it, you may have a fracture or something else going on. My DH has sprained and otherwise injured his ankles so many times, I feel like an expert by association....

Anyway, if you don't make it to the doc today, icing it (20 min on, 20 min off), elevating it, and wrapping it with an Ace bandage when you're not icing will help. You should be able to look online to find out how to wrap an ankle.

How you treat it the first 24-48 hours can make a big difference in minimizing damage to the tissue and recovery time. After there is no more heat in the ankle, you can stop icing--generally takes about 24-48 hours. Then keep it wrapped during the day, and pick up crutches if you need to get around. Depending on what's going on, docs may give you a boot, which will help stabilize everything and keep you from re-injuring while it heals.

    GL!
