3rd Trimester

What do you wash your LO's Clothing with?

Do you get a special detergent or do you use your regular? I am at the point where I have enough that I can start washing, I just want to make sure I do it correctly :)

TIA! and sorry if this is a stupid question. I wanted a practical answer, not a google answer.

Re: What do you wash your LO's Clothing with?

  • dreft. it comes in a pink bottle and can be found at most stores. we bought ours from walmart. its formulated for sensative skin, so your LO doesnt break out from anything. quick tip...use less than what it specifies. it lathers easily and quickly.

  • I'm going to use something that's "free & clear"...not sure which brand though. I think Dreft smells like perfume and may irritate my babe.

  • All free & clear, that way I can just wash all of our clothes together. Much more realistic & affordable.

  • We use a fragrance and dye free because DH has sensitive skin so just using that (any brand)

To be honest, if we didn't already use free & clear I would just use regular until I discovered if LO was sensitive to it. Or I would use free & clear for the first few weeks only.

I wouldn't bother with baby deterg because they are, in essence just regular but baby sented.

  • This is not a stupid question. We use All Free and Clear for all of our clothing. I didnt want to pay for 2 detergents when one does the trick. I use Downey Fabric Softner on mine and dh's clothing.

  • Purex or All Free and Clear. Dreft is too expensive for my taste and I've heard the perfumes in it aren't really that great for baby.
  • You can buy special detergent, but it can be pretty expensive. Some of my Mom-friends used it, some didn't. None have had any problems either way when I asked them about it.

It apparently really just depends on how sensitive (or not) your LO's skin is.

I've actually just washed a few basics in plain old hot water...I'm trying the wait and see approach.

I figure I'll wash a onsie or two in my regular stuff and watch LO really closely - neither FI or I have ever had particularly senstive skin or are allergic to much of anything - Mom swears she never used baby detergent for me.

We figure that if he doesn't have any problems then I won't worry about it. If he seems irritated by it at all, I'll go buy a big ol' jug of the dreft.

This.  We usually use the All F&C, but I've read that Purex, Publix brand and Aldo brand F&C are also really good and well priced.

  • I think Tide Free and Clear...I need to use a detergent that is HE for my front loader.... not many brands make the HE, Tide and Dreft do tho.

  • I'm using dreft now, but you can also do anything that is free and clear.?

  • DH makes ours- I think he uses some combo of regular soap, borax & baking soda & water. It's super duper cheap and smells nice and clean :)

And we wash all our stuff in it, not just baby stuff...

Me too, i use Purex free and clear b/c i am BFing and also love to hold my daughter and being a Gain detergent lover i knew that would more than likely irritate her . The Purex is very affordable and its easier to just buy one detergent instead of one just for itty bitty baby clothes.

I also use Bounce free dryer sheets! Big Smile

  • Ivory Snow.
  • We use a detergent free of dyes and fragrances for everything so baby gets the same stuff.
