I'm about to cry! I try to feed her but she's not getting enough if any, I pump to get my supply going only with no results. I had one good day and that was it! I keep hoping it's about to change but DD is a week old. She was 2 1/2 weeks early if that could have any impact. Any thoughts, advice, encouragement would be extremely welcome at this point. My boobs are a failure so far :-(
Re: Anyone wait a week for milk?
I hear you on the bad LC. We had one awesome one, and one horrible one at the hospital. The bad one said we needed to clip his tongue, no one else.... including our pedi, said that we needed to.
So it sounds like total, you are nursing/pumping about 6 times a day right? For the first three months, you really should be doing it every 2-3 hours around the clock to build your supply. It is super grueling, and taxing... but will make it worth it when you have an awesome supply and don't need to supplement (unless you want to of course).
It's all supply/demand so the more demand you put (even if you don't actually pump a ton) will help build your supply. If your goal is to BF, definitely offer breast first. Even her comfort sucking will help build your supply.
DON'T GIVE UP!!!
My milk comes in really late too. Because of it I wasn't able to nurse my first two children. By the time it would have come in, I had already given up thinking I it wasn't going to come in at all. My third baby is the first baby I sucessfully nursed and my milk didn't come in until day 9! With baby number 4 it came in on day 8.
I was determined to bf with #3 and I can proudly say that he is 3 yo and still nursing along with his new baby sister. So even though he was continuing to nurse, my milk still didn't come in til day 8. Just keep trying and don't give up just yet. There is still hope!
I've already replied to your post on 0-6, but honey you are NOT a failure and your breasts aren't either!! Stressing will decrease your supply, too, not to mention the crazy hormones running through your system after birth...
You're doing fine, keep up with the feedings, pumping, loving your baby... You're already a great mommy for caring so much!
