DH and I are going to be taking our girls on a four hour car trip. Our toddler hasn't traveled much by car and is not used to more than about an hour in the car.
Anyone have suggestions about what to bring in the car with us to keep her busy? She's pretty good at entertaining herself - in the car she usually sings songs and talks with us. I'm just thinking, since we don't have a DVD player in the car, what can I plan? Games? Coloring books?
Re: how to entertain 2.5 yr. old on car trip
We're driving 6-7 hours this week, too. One thing DD loves is if I pack her little purses (she has a million...you could also use any bags) with random toys and stuff--some new to her, some not. She loves to go through the bags, play with what's in them, zip and unzip them, etc. and it keeps her busy for a while. I also think she's old enough for "I Spy" type of games now, so we might try that. She watches "Dora" and sometimes I pretend I'm the Grumpy Old Troll and say, "Solve my riddle!" and then ask her questions ("What color is Uncle X's car?" "What number comes next: 5, 6, 7....?" etc.)
Have fun!

Food! I always pack lots of non-messy snacks.
Books
Stickers/paper on a clipboard
For a really long trip, I usually buy at least one new thing as either a last resort or else I give it to her right at the beginning and she plays with it the entire time. Last time, it was a new Ernie doll. DD talked to him until she fell asleep and slept the rest of the trip!
