DS can't poop ideas?

DS has been trying to poop or so it seems  He really hasn't been able to get anything out.  He just screams arched is his back and grunts.  Does anybody have any ideas of what I can to do to help him.  When I called the pedi yesterday they told me to give him prunes, which hasn't seem to help at all.  He seems to be in a ton of pain and it is Saturday so my only medical solution is the ER.  Which might happen if I can't figure anything out.

  • I would call the oncall pedi and ask if you can give children glycerin suppository. It works fast and is safe, we have been giving them to our son since he was 2 months for problems with constipation. It helps soften the poop that is already there and hard, better than trying to feed him something.

  • Miralax. I dealt with DD being constipated and pedi recommended Miralax. It's not "baby" meds, but I wouldn't give it to DD if pedi didn't say so. I have given her 1tsp daily, first bottle of the day, since she was 4 months old. She now poops every day! Totally rec it!! HTH

  • We've used the glycerin suppositories twice on DD for constipation.  Both times, it had been several days with no BM, and I could see her trying to go but no luck.  I tried the rectal temp and that didn't work, but the glycerin suppositories work wonderfully.  The box we got is made by Fleet, called PediLax I think, and it says ages 2-6.  You don't need to use the entire amount of liquid in the syringe, maybe half.
