Boppy?

So I posted this already on the breastfeeding forum but didn't get anything hoping someone could answer my question here...Anyone who plans on breastfeeding or anyone who has...I attended my BF class last night and the instructor informed us that a boppy isn't helpful during breastfeeding and told us not to buy that to get a My Breast Friend. I recieved one from a friend and bought a cover for it already.. I was wondering if anyone was planning on using a boppy and if you have used a Boppy did it work well for you? Should I get a my Breast friend or would a regular pillow do just fine??

Re: Boppy?

  • I loved my boppy and I plan on using one again.

  • i havent had any children before, but quite a few of my friends are recent new mothers and from what they say, and what i've seen, the boppy didnt really help too much w/breastfeeding b/c they would still have to support the child a little higher to fully reach the boob

  • Thank u very much.. I got a reply on the breastfeeding forum saying they love the boppy to. I'm glad I don't have to buy something else!
  • I loved my boppy. I didn't like the breast friend because you have to snap it around your waist, and that would have driven me crazy. I didn't have a problem with height or supporting dd.

  • This is my first and I got a boppy too. I like it better than a pillow because it supports my arms better. I dont really see what the big deal is with the Brest Friend...isnt that just the one you can wear? Thats just odd to me haha
  • The Boppy works OK...The Brest Friend ROCKS.

I have both and the boppy does serve other purposes for baby down the road so it's not a total waste.  It's great for tummy time and for helping baby learn to sit up.  It was also a great back-up nursing pillow at my mom's house.

  • My friends are so insistant that the boppy is the best that I have two of them (I will put one upstairs and one down since I have a funky bilevel house)

  • I don't use anything...DD is 21 1/4inches long and weighs 9 lbs 4 oz.  I just put her booty on my lap and sit her up pretty straight...She's comfortable like that.  In the hospital I just used a pillow if I needd any support. Just me though
  • Your instructor was awfully opinionated on something that is pretty subjective.  Some people love the boppy, some people love my brest friend.  There is no right/wrong about it.  For example, I use my boppy all the time now for breast and bottle feeding, and both DH and I love it!

From what I've seen and heard, most LC's endorse the Brest Friend over the boppy...something about the ergonomics of it.

  • I'd say go with what you have and save the extra money for something else.. If the boppy isn't working for you then maybe invest in the other pillow.

  • I ebf'd my dd for the whole first year and used the boppy the entire time.  I freakin loved it and she did too!  The last month of bf'ing she would actually drag the boppy over to me when she was getting hungry, lol.

  • I think it's a matter of personal preference.
  • I had a generic boppy with my DD, my mom bought it for me at the hospital gift shop because my arm was hurting while holding her (I have shoulder issues). We got the real Boppy this time around. I loved it for DD though. When it wasn't being used for BFing, it was used for other things. SHe even slept with it later on...
  • I loved my boppys! ?I had several, as some were handed down to me, so I kept them around the house and at work. ?I haven't even looked at the other one as I completely plan on using my boppy again.

  • The LC at my BF class also recommended my breast friend. I registered and have both but it seems more supportive and sturdy than the bobby.

  • I think it just depends on the person.  I got a bobby....most of my friends who breast fed used one, and loved it!  Maybe your instructor just had a problem herself with the bobby......
  • I never tried a my breast friend, but I COULD NOT HAVE LIVED without my boppy, it seems hit or miss. Like 50% of people don't like it and 50% love it. It's personal preference. I also had lactation consultants insist feeding laying down was so easy and comfortable. I HATED feeding laying down, omg hated it and never could do it (worked to my benefit because I never got my DD used to nursing while we slept and I think its safer not to fall asleep nursing in that position).

Anyway, I could not have lived without my boppy, I used it for an entire year while BF'ing to lay DD on it. It was the only way we ever nursed.?
