TTC after 35

Had my post-op follow-up...

OK, this is bound to be long so, sorry in advance!

I got to see the pictures of my innards (this is the whole reason DH wanted to come with me) which to me is always cool.  Doc removed several spots of endo - my uterus was stuck to my colon, blech! - but it's freed up now.  Ovaries look good - ie, no cysts.  One tube is definitely clear, the other was inconclusive.

We talked about me having an HSG because of the second tube - I'm still not sure if he thinks it's necessary or just an option but for now, it's scheduled for 8/7.  I'm going to call and clarify.  What would you do if he says it's not strictly necessary?  Get it done anyway just to be sure?  I'm leaning towards that but I'm nervous for it!  He told me to take 800 mg of ibuprofen prior - I sort of jokingly asked if I could take a Vicodin instead.  I'm really wondering if I could though.  What do you think?  Am I making too big a deal of it?

Anyone care to venture a guess as to why doing one during surgery would be less conclusive than in radiology?  Doc said he isn't really sure.  It seems to me like they are the same procedure, but in surgery they called it a tubal lavage.  Maybe it has to do with looking through the scope vs. on an x-ray?

He wanted to look at my FF charts and said everything on them looks fine.  I'm planning on asking if I should get any b/w done though - FSH, E2, P4 - those are the right ones, yes?  I forgot to ask yesterday.  Don't know if it's necessary yet or not.

He asked if DH had his SA yet - that would be a big NO cause he is being a baby about it.  Afterwards, my favorite nurse was telling me of all the stairwells, bathrooms, unused conference rooms, nooks and crannies in the building where the lab is that we could go so I can help DH out.  I love her - she is so funny!

Oh, also, DH wouldn't stay in the room for the internal exam part.  Said he might hit the doctor.  Of course he was joking about the hitting but seriously, what is he going to do for u/s's and the birth assuming I ever get pregnant!!??

So yeah, that was really long and if you made it this far, thanks for reading!!  Hope everyone's Friday is going well!

Re: Had my post-op follow-up...

  • Well it sounds like a productive appointment.

As far as the HSG, I would just have it done because I would probably wonder each that I don't get pregnant if it had to do with that 'inconclusive' tube.  I know that some women have a bad experience with them which would definitly make me nervous but if it is blocked I would want to know.

My husband had an SA done and I was really nervous he would be a baby about it too.  So I had this spiel ready to tell him 'you know, I get poked and proded every month you can at least do you part  go to a lab and whack it a few times....at least you get a happy at the end of it.'

  • I took 800mg ibuprofen before my HSG, and it wasn't bad at all. The upside to having an HSG is that sometimes blasting the dye in there can actually help open up a blocked tube.

    GL!

  •   I too would we do the HSG.  It's no party, but I was not as bad as I thought it would be.

I had to beg, plead, and promise DH I would buy him something shiny in order for him to do his SA.  Finally, he did and then two mos. later he had to do another.   He was none to pleased.

  • Sounds like a pretty productive follow-up.  I would go ahead and get the HSG done even if the RE is saying it's just an option.  I would want to make sure everything is as clear as possible.

I think almost all of our husbands are weird babies about doing the SA.  Deep down I think they think something is wrong with them and it hurts their male ego...the other part is the public aspect of everyone knowing what they did.  Most guys prefer their choking it to be private.

  • I found the HSG to be very painful and I would still do it if I was you.  I think it is better to know what is going on.  I would also ask for the bloodwork too.  I think the more information we have, the better. (If you do get the HSG and if it does hurt, it is over really fast).

So true!  I know my DH was a baby about it.  I ended up bringing the sample to the lab and everything was normal.  Thank goodness for that option!

    Good luck to you!

  • Thanks everyone - you've all convinced me to suck it up and have the HSG done so I'll be keeping that appointment next week.

And I'm going to work on bribing DH for the SA Smile

  • Regarding the SA.  DH has to have his second.  I find it works out better if I'm "involved".  We also live close enough to the hospital so that I can be the one making the delivery.

  • i got pregnant after my HSG. it increases your chances b/c it cleans everything out. i'd go for it. it can't hurt! it can help!
