High Chairs...

I guess I've waited long enough to purchase one.  Can anyone give me a recommendation on their high chair?  What should I look for, what should I avoid?

Thanks!

Re: High Chairs...

  • We used the Fisher Price Space Saver.  I reclined when he was a baby, sat up when he was older and the back came off when he was old enough.  It straps to a regular chair and doesn't take up much space.  Tray is dishwasher safe.

  • I love our Chicco Polly high chair. I roll it all around the kitchen (& occasionally even in the living room to give him a snack & watch a quick show so I can actually get something done - bad mommy!!). It has even made a trip to our driveway & met the water hose because it gets so dirty from my messy little eater. But it cleans up & looks good as new!
  • I was so indecisive when it came to high chairs that we never bought one and I'm SO glad we didn't!  We used a booster seat and it was all we ever needed.  An actual high chair would have taken up WAY too much space for us.  It's not a "must-have" in my book. :)

  • We have a high chair--Fisher Price Rainforest one and it worked great but we discovered that DS hated it!  He was/is so little that when he sat in it, he couldn't really see around very well b/c of the cushy head thingy (yes, that's the technical term).  We got a booster seat and he LOVES it!!!  His eating actually noticably improved when we transitioned to the booster.  But I know some kids love their high chair and stay in it for quite some time.  It's another one of those every kiddo is different unfortunately.

  • We went with the Svan chair - it is spendy but I like that it is wood, not huge, and looks like real furniture.  It also fully adjusts (seat height, footrest height, tray and crotch guard come off) so he can use it as a booster seat and then as a youth chair.  It's perfect for us!

Oh, and it does have a removable plastic tray cover which is a must have for sure.

  • We have the Fisher Price Space Saver as well. We don't have a lot of room in our dining area, so I wanted something that could attach to our chair. No complaints at all! The height is adjustable, which is nice, and I liked that it reclined when she was younger.

I was excited to see Mrs.Peggyhill's post, I didn't even know it converted to a booster! We will probably do that in the next couple of months.

  • We have the FP rainforest one and it's fine but if I had it to do over with I would just get the FP space saver one.

  • We're getting the Stokke Tripp high chair. Pricey, yes, but teaches them to eat at the table with us and is adjustable and will be her chair for years. I have a few friends who love theirs. I registered for it so I could use the 10% off completion coupon and gift cards to get it.

  • I received a Chicco one as a gift and it was fully adjustable but it just took up too much room in our small house.  My MIL got the FP spacesaver and we swapped with her and LOVE IT!  Since it strapped to a chair Ben would be pulled up to the table with us.  And did I mention it didn't take up much space? Stick out tongue  We just retired it around his 2nd bday and started using a booster seat.
  • We have the Chicco Polly and it's okay.  It's so huge it's really annoying to maneuver it around the dining area, and I find the cushions a pain for cleaning.  It's not machine washable so you have to spray it down in the yard and then wait a day or 2 for the inside padding to dry out.  We had to borrow the little clip on chair from my ILs after Liam threw up in his high chair one night because it was drying in the yard for the next 2 days.

If I had it to do over, I'd probably just get one of the clip-on/booster type seats.

  • We have the Fisher Price Space Saver too... for the same reasons as the PP's--we just don't have room for a regular size one in our kitchen. We've used it without the tray, just pulled up to the table as well. Actually right now, we only put the tray on if she's playing with smaller toys while sitting in it, since we're not doing finger foods yet. So far, I love it, and am glad we didn't go with a full size one.

I also didn't know the back came off. Nice to know!

  • We got the FP spacesaver one too and one of the reasons why we got it is b/c it converts into a booster which is really nice and the price isn't so bad either!
