Perhaps the dumbest question ever, re: baby laundry

Believe me, I know how stupid this is going to sound... but I'm going for it Smile

When you have/will wash your baby's things, are you going to separate them into whites vs. colors? Or most likely wash them all together, since you'll be using cold water? (Or something else, like just washing them with your usual laundry?)

We live in an apartment and have laundry machines in the basement, so we try to avoid doing tiny loads whenever we can.

Re: Perhaps the dumbest question ever, re: baby laundry

  • I use F&C detergent, so I sort DD's (and new LO's) stuff into DH's and my laundry.

There's no need to wash separately.

  • i always just washed baby clothes with my clothes. ive used a skin sensitive laundry detergent my whole life, so its alright to use on babys :)

i dont even seperate my white and colors.

  • I am going to wash them all together with baby laundry soap. i will probably end up add her laundry to DS's.
  • I wash a lot of my stuff in cold anyway, so I probably won't separate them from our regular laundry, just continue to sort lights, darks, delicates etc like I always do.

That is unless LO pooped all over his onesie that day, then that load might get separated from my clothes  :)

  • I wash all of Layla's stuff together. ?It's a separate load altogether. :)?
  • Probably just wash everything together. That's what I do with me and DH's clothes too.
  • I wash baby stuff seperate from our clothes because I loooooove the smell of gain laundry detergent for our stuff, but use ALL free and clear for baby things.  Most baby clothes tend to be similar in color and wash together.  DD had a few dark things that didn't mix in with the rest and sometimes I would wash them with my things and give up my smell good detergent for a load or 2.

  • I will probably wash all of her clothes separately if I can especially at first using the free and clear detergents. ?I have an LG front load steam washer and dryer so they have a specific cycle for baby wear. ?I have to read the book again on exactly what it does but I think it washes the clothes a little bit longer to make sure they are really clean.?

  • I always washed dd's laundry with our own, never used any special detergent or anything and never had any problems.  I separated it according to our loads b/c of the chance of color bleed...didn't want to throw a red onsie in with our whites and end up with all pink stuff.  I never did a seperate baby clothes load.
  • I wouldn't do that until you have washed the coloured items a few times.  Even in cold water, the dye can run the first few times an item is washed...
  • I think I will likely mix the baby's laundry in with our loads.  Separated for whites/colours/darks and sheets and towels.  I have always done laundry that way and will be using a sensitive detergent and cold water.

  • I wash baby clothes separately for the first year because I use fabric softener on our clothes and they say not to use it on baby clothes.  I don't separate baby clothes by color at all.  Just one big load.
