NBR: Eco-Friendly way to get rid of old computer monitor?

Does anyone have any suggestions about getting rid of an old, heavy computer monitor? None of the consignment stores here will take it - they say they get a few each week and none ever sell.

I hate to just throw it in the trash because it has so much stuff inside of it that will never decompose and could be used again. Our recycling won't take it either, we tried to donate it to friends/family and no one wants it. Lol, it's really big and ugly so I don't blame them.

Thoughts on what we could do? It's looking more and more like we'll just have to trash it unless one of you has a great idea. I'll post this on Eco Board too but this one is much quicker with responses.

our township has special drop off/recycling thing for them. i see it in the newsletter. maybe call & ask. i think they are not good to just throw in the trash.

Check with your city/county utility department. Ours has monthly remote electronic/chemical collections (for items that you shouldn't just throw in the regular trash). But since that's not always convenient for us, we drive down to our county dump site where they accept electronic trash. After we got married and had to merge our "stuff", we found we had a lot of electronic stuff that wasn't worth donating and so we took it to the county dump.

You could call Best Buy (or whatever electronics store is in your area), they might know where you could take it

Best Buy has a program to accept used electronics. They charge $10 but then you get a $10 gift card to even it out. Here is the website that has all the info.

I recently took our old computer tower to them.

2 options, you can find a 'special' recycling place in your area that will take things like this and appliances and such.

OR look into donating it to a women's rehab facility which provides job skill training for women trying to turn their lives around, or other similar facilities/programs. They're always taking old/used things like this. I bet they have a youth one too. Kind of like donating old cell phones to battered women to be able to call the police... something like that.
