Eczema and Food Allergies

Have any of you ladies tried the elimination diet for your LO's?eczema? I feel so bad for DD who was up all night scratching and crying. Her eczema cleared up last week with some Locoid cream the doctor gave us but is starting to flare up now that we are off the cream.?

I am already off wheat and dairy. Any advice would be so appreciated!?

Re: Eczema and Food Allergies

  • Sorry you're dealing with this.

Both of my boys have mild eczema and my oldest has severe food allergies.  I pray you don't have to deal with food allergies when your LO is older.  :(

  • I was just thinking about you adamwife! I know you have dealt with a ?lot of food issues with Gabe. I am allergic to wheat/gluten so I am really hoping DD can avoid the whole mess of food allergies... Poor baby girl!?

  • It could just be that she has sensitive skin too though.  Try to stay positive.

My baby sister had eczema and no food allergies!!

  • IDK, both ds and I have eczema, but no food  allergies, so I don't know if eliminating things would work.

  • I did TED (total elimination diet) when Jasper was younger. It helped but not completely because I later found out he was sensitive to even some of the TED foods (like chicken!)

Later I did NAET treatments (very alternative and NOT for everyone) and it totally cleared up his dairy intolerance.

How long have you been off dairy? It takes so long for it to clear their systems and yours. Plus there is a lot of hidden dairy in stuff.

  • Yes and none of it really helped DD. She has awful excema and when it flares up she will scratch herself until she bleeds over and over again... thus it will take weeks to heal one spot. She's been doing this since she was 9 months old. Now she's 2.5 and we're seen an allergist who confirmed she doesn't have any allergies just SUPER sensitive skin.

What works best for her is to have a bath every other day (every day aggravates her skin) and only use Dove body wash/shampoo. She can only be in luke warm water and she can't stay in the bath for more then about 10 minutes. Then we pat her dry and immediatly put  Eucerin lotion on her. If she has an eczema patch we put a dab of her steriod cream in it too.

Hope you find what works best for your DC soon!

  • Oh and I should also mention when she has flare ups DD also wakes up crying, screaming and itching. We usually go in and put more lotion on her and give her Motrin... this seems to help. Our pedi also said we could give her Benadryl if we needed to but we haven't done that as of yet.

  • I have been off dairy since DD was 2 weeks old. As far as hidden dairy goes, I think I might be doing that part wrong! If a cookie has milk in it, does that mean I should avoid that cookie? I get confused when it comes to dairy that is used in items such as bread, etc.?

Thanks for your responses everyone! I really appreciate it!

Here is a comprehensive list of dairy ingredients.  I have to avoid them all for my son's allergies.  You may want to ask your doc how strict you need to be:
