3rd Trimester

Elders who havent had an internal.

Are you having a hard time with not knowing if you've progressed at all? I've been pretty good about not thinking about it, but I've had such an increase in pressure since yesterday that it's making me a little crazy wondering!

Re: Elders who havent had an internal.

  • I have had an internal, but let me tell you that just because there's pressure doesn't mean anything!  I thought FOR SURE that somethig was going on yesterday morning, then at my appointment later on I found out the cervix is still closed.  Dam!

  • I also HAVE had an internal ..yesterday...and I will say that before I got it I was getting very discouraged about all the pain I was having and thinking it was doing nothing for my cervix..well I have progressed so it makes all the pain that much more worth it and bearable...almost 100% effaced which means I am ready to dilate.

I hate the not knowing part you are definitely a trooper for hanging in there.

  • I haven't had an internal yet (my doctor's office doesn't do them until you are 39 weeks+) and honestly it isn't bothering me.  I would think that it would be because I very much like to know what's going on. I think it helps me knowing that even if I have made progress, it doesn't necessarily mean LO will be here any sooner. I have accepted the fact that LO will arrive when he and my body are ready, regardless of how much progress I've made at certain points.  My doctor offered to do an internal at my next appt on Monday, and honestly I haven't decided if I want one or not!  This is all very unlike me....I am usually a huge planner and HAVE to know what is going on...no idea why this is any different!!

  • I did not have my first internal until 39 weeks 4 days. While I was always curious I also liked not knowing. Especially after finding out at 39 weeks, 4 days that there was no progress. I was 70% effaced but baby had not dropped at all and i was not dilated. Talk about discouraging.  I was better off not knowing.

  • I had my first internal this past week, the weekend before the baby dropped and I have had some braxton hicks and lots of pressure in my pelivic area, plus at my ultrasound she said the baby's head was very low. However at the internal no progress - very closed.

  • Ugh, I think it's just getting harder because they have offered to do one at my last 3 appts. and I havent given in yet.

Maybe it's easier to just tell myself that all of the contractions that I've been having are doing their job without having an exact idea of where I'm at.

She's gotta come out sometime, right?

  • i dont know if i would say im having a hard time, but i am starting to get a little curious...i really dont feel anything different down there, but i feel a little rectal pressure and my tummy seems to be tight all the time...no pain or anything like that..i may not get the internal on Wed either...havent decided though..

  • I haven't had one and don't think I will until after 40 weeks.  With my first I was 80% effaced and 3 cm dilated for 3 weeks (I went into labor on my due date).  As curious as I am to know what's going on in there, I just keep reminding myself that he'll come out eventually.
  • Until yesturday, I had not had one (they hadnt wanted to do one) and I was not happy about it. I wanted one because I wanted to know if my efforts to soften my cervix were working and if the mild (pre) labor contractions I was having, were doing anything other then anoy me.

I am not dialted at all but my cervix is very soft and baby is engaged. I am a little more at ease, knowing all the pressure, contrax, and efforts are doing something...more then nothing.

     good luck!

  • No, because I know it doesn't mean anything.
