Baby Showers

Shower at my house?

DH's family is spread all around.  My SIL wants to do the shower.  I was thinking about mentioning having it here at our house.  We have the space, and I wouldn't have to drive an hour there and an hour home.  Plus, this is where all the shower gifts are going to live!

Is this tacky or inappropriate?  I wanted to get an idea before suggesting it to his family.

Re: Shower at my house?

  • If Most of the people being invited would have to drive an hour to get to the shower just so that you can have it at your house?  Then I think it's a bad idea and yes a little tacky.

But if they are all scattered and truly have to drive 30 min. to an hour to get to any of the possible locations, then I say you have to pick the location that works best for that and if your house works, then so be it.

As for simply having it at your house, I don't see a problem with that.  I've been to several showers that were at the parents-to-be's house b/c the hostesses had no where else to do it

  • A friend of mine is doing my shower with the help of my SIL.  My friend lives in an apartment so no go doing it there and my SIL lives out of the way and it would be at least a 30-45 minute drive for people to get to her house.  Plus I have people driving in from Waco and Texarkana which are my family so we're just doing my shower at my house.  It's a good central location and it's big enough to hold everyone.

  • Like others said, if everyone would have to drive an hour to get to your house, I'd have it somewhere else.  However if everyone is scattered, I'd say have it at your place.  I don't think it's tacky.  I think you made a very good point in that it's all going to be going to your house anyway!

Mine is going to be at my house.  I'm not really a central location, most live within 20 minutes of me, but I have the room and my friends and family don't mind driving,  Most will carpool as well.

Almost every babyshower I've been to has been at the expectant mothers house.  I think most people don't want to make the mom-to-be travel if she doesn't need to, even if it's a short distance.

  • It's not tacky at all to have it at your house, plus you can show off the nursery while having it at your house as well!
