2nd Trimester

Anyone NOT getting a 3D U/S?

We have the option of getting a 3D/4D u/s done at an independent place tomorrow, but we are going with a regular 2D just to confirm gender.  It's $40 more for the low end 3D package, which isn't a horrible amount, but every bit helps.  Now that I'm looking up u/s pics, I kind of regret our decision already!  *sigh*  However, nothing is left for the imagination anymore during pregnancies, so I kind of want to be surprised when we see our LO for the first time after birth.  What's everyone else doing?

Re: Anyone NOT getting a 3D U/S?

  • I really want to see what he looks like.  I am waiting until I'm 29 weeks so I can get the best shots of his face.  I don't like surprises!

  • Right now we are not planning on a 3D u/s.  I agree with you - I want the first time I really see LOs face to be when I'm holding him/her!

  • I am getting the 3D scan, mostly because when we went for our 20 week anatomy scan the u/s tech was awful!  Didn't tell us what was going on and gave us two awful pictures!  So we were really disappointed.  We're having the 3D because we thought it would be something nice for my whole family.  You can bring atleast 10 people with you.

  • My OB charges $200 for the 3D/4D session.  My regular ultrasounds are covered by insurance.  It would be fun, but thats money that needs to go to things the baby needs.
  • We're not getting one. It would be an elective ultrasound, and we can use that money elsewhere.

  • We are not getting one, I would rather use the $ on something for the LO or stash it in savings. Plus I think the 3D u/s look creepy. But maybe that is just me?

  • We're not. Just haven't had any desire whatsoever
  • We probably won't.  We're Team Green and wouldn't want to accidentally ruin the surprise, and we also don't want to spend the money which could go toward something tangible for the baby.

  • We're not.  DH and I both feel it's a waste of money.  I can wait to see my baby girl after she's born.  I think the 3D/4D U/S makes the baby look like an alien.  JMHO.
  • I am not a fan of the 3d/4d u/s, I think the babes look like they are smushed in them.

  • Not us. We're just getting the medically routine U/S.

That's how my husband feels as well--and another reason why we aren't doing it.  And the money thing is true as well.  I mean, why spend all that money just so you can see your baby a couple months early?  He or she will be here soon enough!

  • We'd love one, but baby gear and daycare are so expensive as it is that we just can't see spending $350 on one.
  • The place that does our u/s simply includes it.  Their machines are all 3D machines so I guess you could say that you don't want them to show it to you that way but otherwise you get it already so the insurance covers it.

I'd like one, but we can buy the PNP and the carseat for what it would cost . . . I don't know that we can justify it right now.

  • We will not be doing one because of the $, making sure not to ruin team green and I find them a little creepy as well
  • We were not planning on having one nor did we ask for one. However, when we got back to the room, the technician said she would finish our ultrasound up with about 4-5 minutes of the 3-D/4-D. I'm guessing it is routinely done there...I still really don't know. It was awesome though! I definitely don't regret it. (And I'm really hoping there wasn't an extra charge for it since we didn't request it.)
  • i'm not.  my insurance doesn't cover it and I don't want to pay the $400ish to do it.
  • Not doing it. I think they are a little creepy. Plus I would rather spend money on something for the nursery.

Me too!  I feel like its kind of creepy looking and I don't want to waste the money.  I just think it serves no purpose.

  • We had an 3d in our doctors office (of just her face) at 20 weeks. It's in my sig. We're not paying to have another one done.

I think we might if we weren't SO poor. My DH is without a job right now and hasn't been able to find one, and I'm finishing my final college course and working with my Mom a little. We're living with my parents right now and they're paying our bills.

I've had friends who have had it done and they look AWESOME. But, I agree... so much of the "magic" is taken out of pregnancy these days... I think it's important to keep some in there!

If its only $40 more I would totally do it! It was included in ours, but the pics are awesome and I seriously look at them on a daily basis!

    Unfortunately, this...

  • We most likely are not.  Can use that money else where.

  • Not getting one, they freak me out! The babies don't look normal, they look weird and I just don't find them cute in the least bit.
  • If money was not an issue I would totally get one but it is.  Sad
