Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Visiting from 2nd Tri...question

Hello New Mommies.  DH and I are starting to register for things and buy things on our own for our first baby.  My question is, (in your opinion) how many onesies, pants, socks, pajamas, mittens, hats, etc should I have in the begining when I bring my LO home?

I would like to be stocked up, but I don't want to buy and/or register for 20 onesies when I only need 10 (for example).

I figure you ladies would be the perfect ones to ask.  Thanks!.Cool

  • In leiu of onesies we used a lot of the gerber ZIPPY jammies, they come in a 3 pack I think.  The zippers are nice vs snaps when you are sleep deprived.

  • Don't register for ANY clothes, bibs, pants, socks, etc.  You will get so many you'll be over stocked with them!

     That is my advice.

  • people LOVE to buy clothes , so wait til after your shower and you will know what you really need.  we had 0-3 onesies that DS never wore.

  • For us we had about 20 onesie and actually went out a bought some more but DD goes through on average 4 a day. I didn't feel like doing laundry everyday so I'm glad I have alot. DD hates the mittens so we never used them. We can't keep socks on DD to save our life. lol. We have 12 pair and thats enough. we have about 20 sleepers as well and that for us works out good. For hats we had 8. GL!

  • I agree with pp'ers.  Don't register for clothes - you'll get plenty anyway! Also, especially with a winter baby, I don't think onesies are very useful.  People told me I'd layer them a lot (which I didn't).  The onesies that I did use were the ones that came as part of an outfit, but for the most part DS spent his first 8 weeks in footed pjs and one piece outfits.

  • Yeah, don't register for clothes.  Depends how often you want to do laundry.  I'd say your best bet is getting a lot more sleepers than onesies with it being fall.  Onesies are great though if you keep your house really warm in those months.

It also depends how much LO spits up.  My LO doesn't really spit up a whole lot, and we always have a bib on him after he eats...so he generally wears the same thing all day.  He wears sleepers on cooler days in the house and a onesie to bed under his SwaddleMe blanket.  He rarely wears socks unless we go out shopping.

  • We registered for some clothes and maybe 1 packet of each sized onesies. After showers were said and done, we bought the stuff we thought we needed. ?Since your baby's coming in November, you will probably use more footed sleepers. ?We also liked the long-sleeved snap t-shirts (gerber I think) and he'd wear that and a diaper with socks in the beginning since he peed through so much stuff. ?
