Babies: 0 - 3 Months

formula feeders please help

I am currently BF but have to supplement with formula because LO does not seem satisfied.  I am thinking of switching exclusively to formula and was wondering how many ounces and how often you give/gave your LO at 3 weeks?

Re: formula feeders please help

  • Honestly it depends on the baby ... I have two ... they eat different amounts. Try out with 2 oz (if your BF beforehand) LO will let you know when they had enough .... IMO

  • DD was on 3 oz then.
  • DD was taking a 50/50 combo of BM and F at that point at we did 2 - 2.5 oz every three hours

  • I would make a few 4 oz bottles and keep track of how much he eats.  It might seem like waste at first, but it's really the only way to find out how he will eat.  And follow his hunger cues just like you were BF'ing.
  • I am supplementing with formula now too and I actually looked this up last night because I thought my girl was eating a LOT.  The guideline I found was about 2.5 oz of formula per 1 pound of body weight.  So if your baby is 8 lbs, then they would be eating about 20 oz a day if they were solely on formula..so it probably will be less if you continue to BF.

    Hope this helps.
