DD's seat is still in the middle, which is safest. However, when the next baby arrives, her seat will go right behind mine, and DD's will go behind the passenger seat.
DS was in the middle when he was in the infant seat. Once we moved to the convertible he went to the passenger side because of the LATCH. Now DD will be in the infant seat on the driver's side.
My understanding is that the safest spot is wherever your car has the latch system? Mine is on either side, not the middle, so her seat will go behind the driver seat, which statistically is the safer side of the car.
Just did the safety check today - middle of the back seat, if you can. Otherwise, I recommend finding a safety check center and asking what are your best options for your car model and car seat type.

In my car it goes behind the passenger b/c when Dh drives my car he can't drive when it's in the middle. In his truck, it's usually in the middle but right now it's behind the passenger.
I'm so confused about this... I know the safest place is in the middle unless your owners manual says otherwise. Mine doesn't say anything about where to put the carseat, other that not to put it in the front. However, I don't think that it would be best to put ours in the middle because it's slightly raised... So if it doesn't fit in the middle securely I will put it behind the drivers seat because statistically the drivers side gets hit less often due to the drivers instinct to protect theirself.
Our car manual says not to place it in the middle since it's slightly raised and it has an armrest that folds down. The best place in our car is on either side and we're going with the passenger side so that I am able to reach him easier.

Uh, the middle. Otherwise, if you can't do that I'd go with passenger side so it's safer/easier getting the baby in and out when you're parked along a curb.

Re: What side of the car are you putting the carseat on?
Ditto.
I put my DS1's seat right behind the driver seat so I wouldn't have to walk around the car every time to put him in and out. Will do that now with LO.
Plus, other than middle (which won't work for our car) behind driver is safest.
