1. At this age, did you hold your baby all the time? I do, LO always wants to be held when she's awake. I bought a wrap so I can at least get stuff done around the house. How old before this becomes a "bad habit" rather than a normal newborn thing, and did your baby grow out of it?

2. When was LO able to keep a paci in their mouth by themselves? I feel like half my mommy job is a paci-holder.

DS has always been content by himself. He LOVES being held, but he's ok if we put him down for awhile. We can usually get 15-30 minutes 5-6 times a day.

DS has had really good suction since the beginning. Maybe your LO just can't handle the type of paci you have. We have the Avent 0-3 month ones right now.

My DS is a little younger than your DD, but he does get held a lot (partially because my mom & MIL have been here helping out a lot and love to hold him). If he's not feeding or sleeping, he's either being held or hanging out in his bouncer. I still haven't tried my Mai Tai carrier yet...

DS uses a paci sometimes but he can't keep it in his mouth yet... so I'm no help there either.

My DD always wanted to be held, but we got a swing and she just falls fast asleep when we put her in it.

DD is a very strong sucker so she always kept them in her mouth well, but she has a harder time keeping the wider ones in her mouth... the soothie ones seem to be a good size.

Absolutely! Newborns are made to be held :-) I still wear kiddo a lot, but he definitely likes to do his own thing now too. There is research that suggests that worn babies are actually more likely to grow into independent toddlers/children.

We never used a paci so can't help there.

1. Yes. She tolerated the swing and newborn lounger for short periods of time. We still hold her a lot and if we're not holding her we're on the floor playing with her or she's napping (though she usually does this on us).

2. She still constantly loses her paci..I think she's just learned how to push things out of her mouth though and she does that a lot.

we held DD a lot at that age. i wear her in a moby sometimes then, but now not so much) we found the swing...it was heaven. she will still really only take naps in there

cant help with the paci. DD hates them with the fire of 7 suns

1. DS had to be held constantly until about 8 weeks. At that point he started enjoying his swing and bouncy chair and would take naps in his crib, rather than only in mommy's arms.

2. DS rejects the paci, so I can't help you with that.

DD wants to be held ALL the time. It's really hard sometimes because I feel like I can never get anything done! I will put her down and she will get all fussy and then the moment I pick her up she is perfectly content again.

She started being able to keep the paci in her mouth on her about a week ago. At first I kind of had to help her out with it and then she got it on her own. We use the soothies and she loves them.

My ped told me that babies under 3 months old cannot be "spoiled" by being held. Remember, they are used to being in the womb where they are surrounded by warmth, and the sound of your heartbeat. They still crave that attention well into their first few months. Babies who are held and have close contact with people actually turn out to be smarter more well adjusted kids (in my opinion ;o) ). As for the paci thing, my daughter seems to like it but it falls out all the time and I don't always see it soon enough to put it back in, so she just resorts to sucking on her fingers. I'd give it another couple weeks or so until they understand that if they don't clamp down it falls out. Good luck!

My pedi had told us that they can't really get spoiled until after 2 months and then you have to watch out. Like holding them and rocking them to sleep, he said at around two months try to put him down a little more and try to let him fall asleep on his own.

As far as the pacifier goes, we hardly ever give it to our LO, he has never really been a fan of it, only occasionally when he is super tired and fussy, then he'll suck for a short while just to calm down and then he's done with it. He still needs help to keep it in because he doesn't use it much I guess. And we have tried about 5 differnent kinds, currently he uses the MAM kind.
