Would love some advice re: sleeping, swaddling, and swing

My DD will not sleep longer than 30 minutes without being swaddled or in her swing. She is now breaking out of her swaddle, so we can't use that anymore. I can tell that she is exhausted because she is very fussy. I am getting worried about when I return to work in September and she has to go to daycare and can't nap in a PNP. If you had this problem with your LO how did you go about solving it? I've been trying to put her down for naps everyday in her crib, but like I said she's only sleeping for 30 minutes. When she wakes up I put her in her swing and she'll sleep for another hour or two. Any suggestions or ideas?

  • I know this doesn't totally solve your problem, but do they have a swing at daycare?

  • That is my DD all the way. I have tried getting her to nap in her crib and it fails everytime! I love the swaddle blanket with the velcro (kiddopotamus) at babies r us. DD can't break free from this one.

As far as weaning her from the swing for naps...i need help too!!

  • Yesterday at the 2 month appt. my pedi told me to get her in the crib or PNP at least... I asked how when she won't sleep in anything but the swing or boppy. SHe said to pick a few days in a row that I can go without sleep & just DO IT. I thought oh Lord this is going to be hard...Don't pick her up, just go in an comfort with a rub on the back/belly. If you're just putting her back in the swing she knows, i cry & get put in the swing so i'll just cry everytime. We tried the PNP last night & she was fine! Had to comfort a few times & thats it. Its hard, I know.

  • They do, but I am guessing that she will be too big for it by then.

I was afraid I was giving up too easily. I guess I'll just have to keep at it. It's just so important that she gets enough sleep...otherwise she is a bear!?

  • I am hoping we can eventually wean from the swaddle and maybe she will sleep on her belly. I have tried laying her down on her tummy once she's asleep and she always wakes up.
  • I think mine would LOVE sleeping on her belly but the acid reflux, I'm afraid & she isn't old enough I dont think.... Is it when they can lift up well or age or?

  • DS can only sleep for extended amounts of time if swaddled, but he is hudini baby and breaks out of everything--- EXCEPT the woombie. They have lots of sizes too so we are covered for a while. I don't even want to think about him sleeping w/o it. We have 3, alternate 2 at home and one in diaper bag.

I've tried her on her tummy but the pedi keeps telling me I shouldn't. DH and I are both tummy sleepers and I really think that she would be less apt to wake herself up that way. I've tried putting her to sleep on her tummy and flipping her onto her back once she's asleep, but she always wakes up!?

  • my daycare (at home) has the same problem w/ LO.  He'll wake up after 45 minutes, she picks him up and puts him in the swing.  We don't do this at home though.  I will pick him up and re-soothe and put him back in his crib.   GL

Can she lift up her head and turn it from side to side once on her belly? If so, I'd say try a nap on her tummy and see how she does.

She can. I think I will have to give this a try. My mom told me that all of my sisters and I slept on our bellies and we were just fine!?

This is what we do and naps have been slowly getting longer

  • Ok, i just swaddled DD while BF and put her in her crib for a nap. Keep your fingers crossed she stays asleep!
  • my DS only naps if you ae holding him, in a bouner seat or in a swing.  He NEVER naps in a crib.  I have tried...when he started daycare I told them so he always naps there in a seat or a swing.  they dont force him in a crib.
