I called my mw office this morning to talk w/ the nurse. I was so stressed b/c I feel like my symptoms are vanishing. The nurse told me all was prob. ok, but would talk to the mw. When she came back on she said... "hypothetical question... Could you be spotting?" I said no and she said "Could you be spotting?" I guess the only way they would order an u/s is if you are spotting. She said she would twist the mw arm a little but said "Maybe you've had discharge w a little bit of brown?" Ok I've had discharge. Why do they need an excuse, when I just had a loss in February? It seems like for most on here u/s are routine in the first tri.
She scheduled me an u/s at 1pm, but what if they ask me directly if I'm bleeding? Do I have to lie for insurance? ugh! I'm so not like that.
Re: stressed...wanting an u/s... told to lie.. would you?
This (but I haven't had any u/s). I would feel very uncomfortable lying to get an u/s.
I'd say you need to try not to let the stress get the best of you, as we've all been there, scared in those early days. Symptoms start going away, it's normal.
I got to the point several times where I considered telling a fib to get an u/s, but I could never bring myself to do it - I feel like karma would come back and get me for lying or something.
I had to have an u/s at ten weeks due to bright red blood and the whole experience was SCARY. If you're not having any bleeding, you should just try to stay calm and get through these next few weeks!
I do feel uncomfortable lying to get an u/s which is why I didn't, but she still called me back with a scheduled time... so I don't know if she lied to get me one or if the mw just did it for my stress level???? My frustration is that when I get to hosp. for my u/s they will ask me why I'm there.... Which I will just tell them the m/w thought that I should b/c of discharge and diminishing symptoms.
agree w/ previous post, def. wouldn't lie. There are other women out there who ARE actually bleeding and need the u/s. Have you had any u/s yet? When are your scheduled ones? Honestly, your just going to have to hang in there. It's going to be REALLY stressful untill you get farther along. 1st tri (and some of the 2nd untill I started showing) was torture for me, because I had no idea if the baby was ok or not unless I was at an apt getting a u/s or doppler used. But you can't go everyday. You just have to be patient. I believe whatever is meant to be will happen, regardless if it's good or bad...you just have to go with the flow and think positive!!!!
I would say you've had some discharge too. Like others said-the stress is not good for you or baby...so just let them think your symptoms that sent you for the u/s are worse than they really are. In the long run I think its worth it to know the baby is ok.
I had an emergency u/s at 7 1/2 weeks and found out later than the doc embellished the symptoms a little so the insurance would cover it. Sounds like pretty common practice to me.

I totally agree and I would report that nurse!!!!
Well, I went to the appointment at 1, and no I did not have to lie. I told them about the discharge and concern. No questions aside from that; although I do think that my mw had it listed w/ the u/s office at the hos. as light bleeding. Just so you all know I NEVER asked for that. I said, no to them about bleeding, and when I called concerned this morning I was requesting that my levels be checked. The hb is 162 and the measurement are GREAT! That was very important for me to see that the growth was right on track. 8w3d.
Thank you for all your responses.
Although, wow... your responses were so interesting to read. From not lying just b/c to not lying b/c of karma, to not lying b/c I might take an u/s from someone else who is bleeding, to go ahead, to reporting the wonderful nurse in my office who just like me has suffered a 2nd tri loss. Whew... that was a roller coaster. I did not lie today, I don't believe I prevented anyone from getting an u/s who might have ALSO needed one, and I will not report my nurse. lol. All is well.
this. You shouldnt have to lie but if it is their office policy, or if they are concerned your insurance won't cover it otherwise, then I think you have to do what you have to do.
