FF vs. OPK's - not impressed with the interpretation! Somewhat of a vent.

Since I was away last month for a few weeks, I consider this month to be my "first" attempt with FF.  At the suggestion of someone on this board, I purchased OPK's in conjunction with charting.  I bought the Answer brand and will buy some cheapies online for next month, I think, as it seems I need more than 7 to figure this out in a cycle.

With DS, my wake-up times can vary - hence the circles in June's calendar.  I was thinking that the OPK's would help determine my actual O date, but so far, only negatives.  I've been testing everyday at roughly 3pm.

After entering this morning's temp into FF, it is now saying that I O'd on the 13th.  I just don't agree with that - it seems too early and a negative OPK to boot.  I know that the OPK tells you only that you are gearing up to O but may not after all.  I'd believe more that I didn't O vs. that I did on the 13th, you know?

Any thoughts?  I'm very frustrated to say the least.  I've always thought that I knew my body and now having to believe a chart over signs of CM are driving me wacky.  Ugh.

Thanks for letting me vent and air my annoyance. I guess I was just hopeful to be in the 2WW soon but everything seems questionable here.

Happy Thursday to all!

  • Is it possible you just missed your surge with the OPKs?  I know for me that testing once a day is not enough and I tend to miss it.  If I only test once a day, I will get a line that grows darker over a couple of days and then fades out again over the next couple.  But when I test a couple of times a day, the same thing will happen but I have ended up seeing a positive.

Maybe after a few more days, FF with move your CHs?  In the meantime keep having sex just in case if you think FF has it wrong!  GL!

  • I say give it some time. For me, O'ing around the 13th is normal, but I've been charting for 10 months. Keep entering your temps and see what happens. You could've missed your surge with the OPK. I can't remember what time it says to test in Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I want to say sometime between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, but I could be totally off. You might want to get a copy and double check what it says to boost your odds of catching the surge. Don't stress too much over the charting, even though it's hard not to! Good luck!

  • Thank you for the feedback!  I think you are correct with the timing of 10am - 2pm with TCOYF.  Don't ask me why I chose to pick 3pm, oddly enough. Now I feel miserable that I missed a few key days of having sex....since I thought that I was going to O later.  I'm still hopeful that the dotted CH will shift as I get more temps and/or a positive OPK.

Do most people test 2x a day with the OPK?  If so, what times do you test?

Thanks again for the helpful info!  We shall see!

  • My RE suggested between 6 and 9 pm for OPKs, not sure why so late. I think you may be gearing up to O right now, so would keep testing and keep getting busy. Hopefully a few more temps will clarify things. GL!

  • I always started using non-digital OPKs once a day around 4pm before I knew I was bound to O and then once closer to O time I did a digital OPK at 4pm and a non-digital before I went to bed.  I don't think I ever missed my O date with this method.  This was all when I wasn't using my CBEFM.  Once I started using that I only tested around 4pm with a digital test.

  • I totally know how hard it is to chart with a child.  My time was always slightly off too.  Not to mention that some mornings I had to pee and couldn't wait till my regular time to get up, take temp then pee.

I think time will tell if you O'd or not.  This is my first month on clomid but the doctor told me to start BDing at day 10 every day for 10 days.  We have done it and I got positive OPK's yesterday (CBEFM and sticks).  I will try and test again today to see if I still have a high and then maybe BD again tonight just for good measure.
