depends on how your stored it initially. normally we stick ours in the refrigerator the night before we plan on using it and then place the container in luke warm water the next day if it isn't completely thawed.
I put it (the baggie or Tupperware container) in a pan of hot water so that it starts to thaw, and then change the water as it cools off. Once a decent portion is thawed, then I dump it into a sauce pan and put it on low.
(I've scorched it by putting it straight from the freezer into a sauce pan. And I always make a mess of it in the microwave, so I just avoid that when I can!)
freeze it flat in a ziploc bag, then you can defrost it super fast in a sink of warm water OR break off what you need and just toss it in a pot with a little water on the bottom.

This. It actually thaws quite quickly in warm water.
