Things I Would Rather Do Than Have a Bikini Wax

I haven't had one since being pregnant. Is the pain gonna be worse than normal?

I just scheduled a bikini wax for tomorrow morning and why does it feel like I have a date with the executioner? Whenever I walk in the door I feel like that "dun dun dun dun" music should be playing.  I mean I always love the result, but seriously there are so many other things I would rather do.  Here are a few:

  1. Have a root canal
  2. In fact, have two root canals
  3. Get a pap smear
  4. Kiss my dog's nose even though it's sniffed up every dog butt in the neighborhood
  5. Deep clean my house top to bottom
  6. Re-live my entire first trimester
Ugh. If only waxing weren't the best and longest lasting. If someone has a pain-free bajingo hair removal method on par with waxing, please let me know. I hate doing this every. single. time.

Re: Things I Would Rather Do Than Have a Bikini Wax

  • Ugh!  I have no bikini wax experience (athough I did get my legs waxed once/mo until earlier this year).  But I had to laugh at your list.  Your top 2 things are the same ones I always think I'd rather be doing instead of a gyn exam!  And I've had 4, so I know of what I speak. :-p

  • Are there any pain meds you can take right now?  An ibuprofen or tylenol before hand always helps take the edge off...and make the waxer put on pressure or an antiseptic right after.  Sounds funny, but it makes the pain stop much much faster.  A hot towel helps too; the pressure stops the nerves from zinging, and the antiseptic gel/lotion stops the stinging feeling.

Those are the tricks my lady uses, she's awesome and fast, so waxing isn't so bad anymore.

This is what I'm wondering. In my pre-pregnancy days I almost always popped a few Ibuprofens before waxing. But now...ugh. Not so sure. It's not at all recommended in the third trimester which I just entered so I probably shouldn't.  Being a woman sucks sometimes.

  • Unfortunately I told my husband - I wouldn't have a bikini wax if I was single (or living alone) and I'm not having one just cuz I'm married.

    He's gets it au naturale

Unfortunately, I love the beach too much and I am so not about to head to Hawaii tomorrow looking like an urban bush woman.  Also can't do shaving down there as most african american women can't due to ingrowns and other lovely stuff that comes with having coarse, curly hair.  Waxing really is the best solution for me. I just hurts like the dickens.

  • Ibuprofen is a no-go but you can take tylenol.
  • I got one at 26 weeks, it hurt, but it always does.  I don't remember now if it hurt worse then usual, sorry.

  • The only thing I've ever waxed is my eyebrows. Having my V waxed sounds frightening! GL!

  • I remember getting a b. wax when I was in my first trimester with DD. It hurst SOOOO bad and I wanted to cry (I don't cry!).

Have you tried someone who uses hard wax (I think that is what it is). Instead of using paper and taking the hair off in strips, they can do it all at once with the wax, and it doesn't hurt as much. It's more expensive and takes more time, but definately worth every penny.

  • Honestly it really wasn't much worse than when I wasn't pregnant.  Just take some Tylenol (or whatever your doc okays for pain) an hour or so beforehand, and try to go to your happy place during "the procedure".  :)

It helps that the gal I've gone to the last few times is a non-intimidating older lady.  One time I went and the gal looked exactly like Paris Hilton.  I don't need that kinda pressure when I'm girlscaping...

Yes the place I go uses hard wax. It definitely is quick but it still hurts like a mother!!! LOL

CWhip!!! "Girl scaping" OMG!!! I am using that from now on. And I agree. I prefer for my waxers to look more like Mrs. Doubtfire....not Paris Hilton.

Husky: I really want to invest in that one day as this whole waxing ritual puts my stomach in knots every time. How much did you pay? How long did the process take?

I 2nd this. I like to clean things up down there by trimming the landscape, but that's about it. Not sure how I feel about hot wax near my girly bits.

  • I know I am weird but I really do not think it hurts! I think it hurts worse to have your eyebrows waxed. I do it every 6 weeks.

it was $1400 but that was in 2000 or so?  i paid for all treatments up front (arm pits, bikini and privates (which is kinda brazilian-ish)). it does hurt BUT it's so nice not having to shave or having to worry about a hair poking out of your bathing suit Stick out tongue  each treament was about 45 mins but keep in mind, i was technically having 3 sessions...i went in every 6 weeks.  best.money.spent.
