Cradle cap?

I'm pretty sure Maddie has cradle cap, which is kind of weird b/c she didn't have it as a newborn. But I'm guessing it has something to do with her helmet. There are little yellowish spots on her head that I can pick off and her head never smells completely clean, even right after her bath.

For those of you that dealt with cradle cap, what did you do to get rid of it? I've read that you can massage olive oil into the scalp, although that seems kind of disgusting since she has so much hair.

Owen had some minor cradle cap when he was a newborn and we used a Baby Oil gel. It wasn't as greasy or messy to massage in and you could control the amount coming out of the bottle.

I've heard of using Head and Shoulders Shampoo. That's a lot cleaner than olive oil! Or BRU sells Cradle Cap shampoo.

We were told we could rub baby oil on it or wash his hair w/ a dandruff shampoo (just make sure you don't get it in her eyes b/c it stings!)

Kira's had it her whole life -- it was really bad as a newborn and more or less went away last year but it's come back this summer. We use Vitamin E and almond oil. And now...we just kind of gave up and do nothing now as it doesn't bother her and it seems to come and go as it wants to anyway -- great Mom, huh? Definitely don't use mineral oil/baby oil though as it's made from petroleum, but olive oil would be totally fine too. For now I'm sticking with trying to brush it and pick it out in the bath. If you find a miracle cure, let me know!

Ashley has had it her whole life too, but it does not smell and you can really only see it in the direct sunlight. After her bath, I will use a comb or my fingernails to pick it off, (lovely,huh?). One of my DH's cousin's kids had the same thing for years and it cleared up on its own. I am going to ask her pedi about it, but I am not overly concerned b/c it does not seem to bother her. Pedi recc hydrocortizone cream. It cleared it right up. I never picked the stuff out of his head it must have just come off in the bath.

I did the olive oil when she was like 5 weeks old and it DID help. But she still has a tiny bit at the top of her scalp. I found shampooing every day and using a brush in the bath too shampoo with helps. I also read about the anti dandruff shampoo working, but her's is so mild, I don't worry about it.

Try using a toothbrush to wash her hair with..it helps break up the pieces on her scalp and then they'll rinse out. We were told to use a dandruff shampoo and that seems to help some, but really using the toothbrush with any shampoo seems to do the best job.

Jack had a pretty bad case of cradle cap when he was a few weeks old. I put some baby oil on it and let it soak for a few minutes and then used a soft baby brush to gently "exfoliate" the cradle cap. I washed it out with regular baby shampoo in the bath. It removed almost all the cradle cap. He does have a little coming back now, so I think I'm going to have to repeat the process tonight.

Luke hasn't had it too bad yet but a friend of mine swears by Aquafor. She said nothing else would take it off for her DC. HTH!

Gentle Naturals (Disney) Cradle Cap Care

I swear by it. Brooks had cradle cap and it worked wonders - didn't have to use it often at all. Caroline only had a little cradle cap and I only had to use the stuff once on her.
