Trying to Get Pregnant

Checking Cervical Position ?

I haven't been checking my CP throughout my cycles yet. I plan to start if I make it to the next cycle. (Hopefully I wont)

So here is my question....although I know everyone is different.

When your cervix is high, how high is it? Can you barely find it, how far do you have to go in, etc?

When your cervix is low, how low is it? To the first knuckle, second, etc?

Thanks ladies! I attempted to check in the last few days leading up to AF or BFP and it seems pretty high. This morning I almost couldn't get to it but I did.

Re: Checking Cervical Position ?

  • When my cervix is high I can almost not find/touch it. When it is low, it is right there about one in a half knuckle in.

  • I had such a hart time with CP I just gave up. I think it probably takes a few cycles to get this one down correctly.
  • I just started checking CP, so others may have more/better info. BUT, for me, my low position is definitely past my second knuckle and high is almost hard to find. What you're finding leading up to O sounds normal (for me at least).

  • For me, when my cervix is high I can't really even find it.  Medium, it is harder to reach and usually most of my finger is in.  Low, easy to reach and it is always firm/closed as well so that is easy to identify.  HTH.

  • Thanks ladies!!

So from what I have read online....when AF is coming your CP is low, right?

I'm with Monkey - I gave up on CP. I could never tell a distinct difference and let it slide since it is a secondary fertility sign. I may give it a shot later in this cycle though, just to see if I can tell when it's higher/more open.

    Yes...

I think it would also be low for a BFP though too...

I think the CP is most useful in detecting ovulation and not a BFP.

    Ok....Thanks!!

  • I can def tell a difference between high and low, but maybe not enough of a difference to also distinguish a middle.  High is still reachable for me, and low is definitely more than just a half-finger in.  When it's high, there is less of it to feel, though.  When it's low, I would guess I could feel at least an inch and a half or two inches, and it does feel like a nose, in terms of firmness.  I finally felt what "soft" feels like, on my first CBEFM peak day of this cycle, and it was like lips, just like I had read.  It was really cool to "get it" for the first time. :)
  • I only bother with CP some of the time...I don't think I have ever had it be as low as some people are describing.  High is almost impossible to reach, medium is still pretty much a full finger in.

  • I tried many times and cannot reach mine even with full finger in.  I got tired of digging.  It's just too much for me, so I don't even try anymore.

  • I just got my TCOYF book in the mail yesterday and tried this. My cervical position *should* be low right now and I absolutely cannot find it. It's just a never ending tunnel, unless I'm missing something. I don't understand HOW it can ever be that low though.... how would a man fit inside you if the tunnel ends at 3"? Unless it's like spring-loaded and can push your whole reproductive system up in your stomach up to 10". I just don't get it.

Sorry for the TMI but this is kind of frustrating/confusing to me.

  • jepperson, for me, I never feel like my cervix is at the end of the "tunnel."  Maybe mine just feels like it's on the side (front side) because I have a tipped uterus?  Do other peoples' feel like it's at the top, and your vaginal canal itself is longer/shorter?  Mine seems more like the vaginal canal stays the same, with the cervix getting higher and lower on the front wall.

I wish I could draw a picture in my post.

OK, so look at the diagram that is from the side.  I feel like, especially when my cervix is low, I can reach right past the cervix into the area labeled the fornix.  It feels like if I had sex at that time, the penis would go right past my cervix in the same way.

I have no idea if that's normal or if it's because of my tipped uterus (which I figure must be pretty tipped, bc every doctor who has ever examined me has immediately said, "Do you know that you have a tipped uterus?").

  • Mine feels like it looks nothing like that diagram. Where does the penis go though if the canal is only a few inches long, seriously? Inside the uterus? I've always wanted to ask my gyno this when looking at the wall charts but felt stupid.

No gyno has ever mentioned anything abnormal about my parts though so... I dunno.
