unexplained fever - melb come in please

leanna and melb re: yesterdays conversation......

mady went to bed with 99 fever....at 4am it spiked to 102....this morning she woke up with no fever and now while at the drs office (my dh is there with her now) she has 102.1!!! wth is this??????????

my dh is waiting to be seen by the pedi...this is really starting to scare me and i keep thinking about feberal seizures!

also barbie i think you mentioned that diego had a fever for a couple of days also related to molars....how long did it last?

i think they are gonna run some tests on her to make sureits not a virus or god forbid her ears (even though she has the tubes)

  • DOn't worry about febrile seizure - that doesn't happen unless it's much higher - like 104.

It could be something you don't see - like a UTI maybe.

  • It can also just be a virus that needs to run its course.

  • she had some loose stools yesterday? would that be a sign of a uti? (i wouldnt know i have only had 1 and that was when i was pg)

this is so scary - i think i freak out the most with fevers...i can handle the rest of the stuff but when it comes to fevers i just freak out.

  • It could, or it could be a whole new virus. Kids can pick up a virus anyplace

  • Fevers are good - it means the body is fighting something so don't worry about it too much.  It's good that she's at the dr they will figure it out.  Little kids get higher fevers than adults also.

  • did yo ugive her any kind of tylenol or motrin? You should try that before taking her to the pedi! If she has no other symptom, they are just going to tell you that it's a virus and it has to run its course!

102 is high, but nothing alarming. Fevers are good because it shows the body is strong enough to fight whatever is attacking it! Kepp us posted!

we have been trxting the fever for 3 days with tylenol and then just yesterday i switched over to motrin....it has done nothing which is why they told us to go in today asap. we had related it to 2 new molars she is growing but the pedi says 3 days of fever should not be related to teeth

  • No advice here, but I hope you guys can get some answers and that Mady feels better soon.

That is what I am thinking. The same thing has happened to Sophia (exactly the way you described) a number of times since she turned 1. At first it freaked me out but now I am used to it. She has a bug. Sophia's fevers have gone as high as 103.5. Don't freak out. Some kids just get higher fevers than others. Just keep doing what you are doing, moniter her, and follow the doctor's orders. Keep her hydrated and keep her on Motrin. At this point I don't even let the fever get to 101.5 before I give her Tylenol or Motrin - my goal is to keep the fever down until the virus runs its course. HTH!
