North Carolina Babies

Had my Hospital Tour Last Night

At Rex. It wasn't what I expected at all. There was no one on the second floor (at least that we saw). No babies. No mommies. Only nurses. It was oddly silent. Made me a little nervous actually. The third floor had activity which I gather is because that is where the NICU is. There were also 2 babies in the nursery.?

?I'm not sure what I expected but I guess just more activity. What L&D overly quiet when y'all where there??

Re: Had my Hospital Tour Last Night

  • yes but I didn't think twice about it.  I had my LO at rex and it was the best experience at a hospital I've ever had.  The nurses were amazing!  They let me progress naturally while in labor and I didn't want to leave.  GL

  • None? Or were they just in their rooms with door shut? My sis works at a rather large hospital in Charlotte and that would never happen! A slow day for her is 10 new babies.
I've only heard great things about Rex so I'm sure you are good hands! And if that is the case just think about all the hands on help you should have.
  • I feel like I didnt notice a lot of people when we took our tour but I'm sure that there were people there and just in their rooms...and a lot of the babies could have been with their mommies on the floor which explains not many babies in the nursery. It was a great experience for me and all my nurses but 1 rocked!!

  • From seeing nurseries on tv, I expected to see a ton of babies.  However, we only saw one or two when we went on our tour.

I expect most parents (like ourselves) kept their baby in their own personal room instead of letting them stay in the nursery.

I felt L&D was pretty quiet when we deliverd.  However,  I guess it was pretty busy b/c my last nurse hurried me out so another expecting mom could have my room.  Smile

Rex was awesome!  I only experienced 1 nurse that was not so nice.  However, I was near the end and didn't have the energy to request a new one.  You'll do great!

  • When we took the tour of Rex I think I expected the hallways to be mobbed with screaming babies or something. Not the case. I also remember thinking it was eerily quiet. But my neighbor works in the Special Care nursery there, and we ran into her that day. She said 30 babies were born the day of our tour! I couldn't believe it.

The day I had my baby something like 25+ babies were born that day. Up until I was in the PACU I felt like I was the only person there. And I only saw a handful of new Moms in the halls after they brought us to our room, even though the nurse told me our floor was full.

  • I delivered on a Sunday and was told they don't induce on Monday's, so that could explain why it was so quiet (I also asked why is was so calm there). I did see babies on my tour, no mommies. I was there for 4 days and only once did I hear a lot of noise, and they was the room next to me because they had a 3 year old visiting. It was very quiet and calm. I expected screaming people too! I only encountered a few people in the halls the whole time. I was on the 2nd floor. It was very nice and I had a wonderful experience there.

Hmm... I was induced on a Monday Smile

But yeah, in LD, it was definitely kind of quiet. I didn't hear women screaming in labor, etc. hehe...

There was definitely more going on when I got to my actual room though.
