Who wants to tell my DH that he has to repeat the SA?
I don't! The doc called with the results. He has super great counts and motility. But too many sperm have abnormal forms. The doc says it's highly possible that it was a fluke, or a normal fluctuation. Or, he could have a varicole (sp?) that could be corrected.
TMI part is that even though it says not to use saliva, we did at the beginning, because he could not "finish" without some sort of lubey-ness. Lord knows I tried!
I think if that were going to have an effect, it would hurt motility, not form. But what do I know?
So, I am wondering (and will ask the doc tomorrow, at my hysteroscopy) if Pre-seed would be ok to use, or if we could get one of these "special" condoms for semen collection that I read about.
Anyone have any experience with either of these options and SA?
Re: SA: The Sequel from Hell (with TMI)
Sorry he has to do it again. At my REs office they offer that special condom for $17. I don't know if you need to use it in the office or if it is ok at home though. I would think you should be able to use it at home and then maybe tie off the top? Not sure though. I hope SA #2 shows better results.
Good luck with your hysteroscopy tomorrow.
Hi, Ginger.
We did things at home.
Thanks so very much for sharing your SA experience. It eases my mind considerably to see that drastic change in numbers.
Joyful
You know, if my RE says we have to have sex in the office, I may just run screaming.
From what I've read, you're exactly right: You get busy at home, and then tie a not in the condom.
Thanks everyone, for your well wishes and sympathy/empathy.
I'll post what the doc says about pre-seed and condoms tomorrow - just in case one of you fine ladies and your DHs find yourselves in a similar situation one day.
As for the scope tomorrow, the doc thinks I have a fibroid or something, and he wants to remove it while he's in there.
Eeeee!
Oh! I'm so sorry he has to do it again. When I came home from my RE appt. and told DH that he wanted him to do another SA because it had been 2 years DH (jokingly of course) said emphatically "NO WAY!" He went and did it and then came home to tell me that no one offered to come in and help him out (my RE wants it done in the office and DH is quite the joke-ster).
This morning as we were talking about the IUI DH asked how many more times was he going to have to choke it in public? I just laughed and told him that hopefully just once.
LOL, NowDNA!
"Choke it" - I swear I haven't heard that expression since I was 14! That's right up there with "play the magic flute!"
I have seen plenty of girls post about a big improvement from one SA to the other.
I also read this the other day: If you are collecting the sample at home, put the sample in between your boobs to transport it to the lab.
Keeps it right at body temperature.
Always trying to help, ya know!
My DH was going to have to repeat his SA in the urologist's office, but then we had our BFP. I'm thinking now he's off the hook with having another one done. But I was so glad that the doctor was the one who told him and not me! At our first SA, there was an option for the condom kit, which might have helped. He needed my help to get the job done. NOT a fun morning! I
feel your pain!I came back from my RE appt. with the news that DH has to do another SA as well.
Curious to see what they say about the Pre-Seed...
Wow...this is seriously making me laugh! Okay...not about all the repeats, but the "choking it" and "magic flute"! LOL
On a serious note though, I'm glad to see that others are having to repeat too. My hubs has done 3 now...and his white blood cell count is high. It went from 4 million to 9 million and 9 million again. The urologist didn't find anything wrong with him though. They said they can "wash" most of them out prior to my IUI so he's to hoping! Hubs is on his third round of antibiotics to try and get rid of them though!
