Best Organizational Tools?

So I'm looking at my tiny house (a 900 sq ft house that we moved 2500 sq ft of stuff into *gasp*) and how overwhelmed it is with stuff. Not stuff that I can get rid of. Its all stuff we use.

I'm looking to organize. I am about to invest in the under-the-bed storage containers but need more ideas. I have two bedrooms but really want a dedicated organized space for crafting.

What do you think the best organizational items & tools?

TIA

Re: Best Organizational Tools?

  • I'm with on the FULL small house. We've got about 1150 sq. ft.It was full with just the two of us, now I'm trying to find space for baby's stuff too!

I'm a fan of space bags. Occasionally I'll get one that doesn't stay deflated, but they work for the most part. After sealing them, I put some of them in our large suitcase that we only use rarely. The others are stacked under our bed.

This year I've also been taking a HARD look at what we own vs. what we need. I've thrown out lots of stuff that I thought I "needed" for years, but then forgot I even had.

For magazines you want to keep: Look through them and tear out pages and inserts that aren't necessary. It's amazing how much of a magazine is double-sided advertisement pages, perfume samples, subscription cards, etc. After you're done, they don't take up nearly as much space.

  • I'm a huge fan of space bags too.  I used them while pg for my nicer regular clothes.  DDs outgrown clothes are in one under the guest bed.  My maternity clothes fit into one large tote in the garage after being put in a space bag.  I noticed them at Costco the last time I was there.

  • Our last house was 1,000 sq feet, so I totally feel your pain. I'd really take a long-hard look at the stuff you already have. We got rid of a TON of stuff that I thought we needed - I never missed it when it was gone, and it cleared up a ton of space.

Besides that, I love the Expedit line from Ikea. We have the entertainment center and bookshelf. The little cubes are perfect for stashing all sorts of goodies in baskets - DD's toys, manuals for electronics, everything gets hidden away.

  • Great ideas above.  Also, check out Ikea for ideas on storage solutions.  I feel like they offer a lot of great ideas.

  • My hubby bought me some space saving hangers. I don't know the name of them , but are the ones you can put 5 racks on and then they fold down. You can usually find them where they sale " As Seen On TV" items. I also am downsizing, stuff I have but don't use on a regular basis is got to go :)
  • Ooh, yes, another HUGE Space Bags fan here!  I also really like those plastic cone things you can put under the four legs of your bed, to lift it up like 6"... no clue what they are called but you can store A LOT under your beds this way.  :)

Bed, Bath & Beyond carries just about everything you see on Infomercials, like Spacebags, maybe check there for some ideas and good luck!!!
