imageCathomas228:

Well ladies as a mother of 3 and number four on the way, I have to say made to time to take a shower each time and plan to do so again. Yes labor is messy but not until the end. Do you really want Drs and nurses outside you room talking about how much your but stinks? and as a person in the health care profession YES we will talk about you. So S***, Shower and Shave ladies....but don't put your self your LO at risk....please do take the time to shower if your crowning..LOL

  • LOL. I just read that. It's.... kind of funny.

Well, I am a teacher and this isn't professional either but kids with really crazy names and uneek spellings tend to get talked about (well their parents mostly). But I'm still a great teacher! :)

  • my butt stinking is worse than what will come out of me during delivery.....shower or no shower i'd hope the nurses will have more important things to talk about, other than my stinky butt.  and yes butt has two t's
  • She sounds like a real winner of a nurse or whatever "health care professional" she is.  I sure hope I end up with a great one like her when I'm in labor! No

  • Eek! How will I ever relax during labor knowing the health care professionals are outside snickering at my unshaven crotch?! How diiiiiirty.....

  • hmmm.. i believe i am speechless.. the spelling errors alone make me want to vomit.
  • hmm hardly seems worthy of the term professional to me.?
  • Not professional.

Not to mention that if an OB and L&D nurses can't understand why you can't lady-scape at this stage of your PG then they are just stupid and should be throat punched.  If I thought that my OB was worried about my landing strip more than getting this baby out safely then I would be looking for a new Doctor ASAP.

  • I'm LOLing at "person in the health care profession," too.  It's certainly no position that required a college degree.
  • i am horrified beyond belief. seriously.

Very true. (Now that I take a moment to read the post seriously!)

  • Lol, this makes me want to leave the jungle down under alone and make sure that my butt has a nice aroma to gag the L&D nurses.

Hey if they're gonna talk, why not give them something good?

    Lol....gross

  • I think it's normal for nurses to talk about patients.  It's just like me talking to my husband about all the rads I work with (magazine publishing company).  My sister is an RN and she is constantly telling us about patients that have come in.  Not always bad though, some are how her days are horrible and she has 28 year olds dying of cancer.

I think if there's some patients they can laugh about it evens out the bad things they see at the hospital.  Like the guy who had a 12 inch cement dildo stuck up his a$$.  He's was brought into the hospital by his wife that was 6 months pregnant.

  • I get gory details from my BFF all the time even when I don't want them but she said take a shower you will have time. I am not worried about what the nurses say about me I can't handle pain so I am sure that will be what they are making fun of more than whether or not I smell.
  • Oh I can top this actually.....

When I was in labour and one of the doctors or nurses were checking to see how far I was dialated, a team of doctors in training arrived on their rounds to see how I was coming along what with it being a teaching hospital and all.

The resident that was overseeing my labour said in front of the group - "Have we met before?" Imagine me in the middle of a contraction and then realizing that she watches me on TV and announces it to the whole group.

    A W K W A R D much?

I did get a really killer room assignment though.?

I would expect my nurses to have a little more class then that.

I also don't really care if they think my butt stinks. I'm going to pop a child out of my vagina, I doubt I'll smell like roses. Oh and if I can't reach my vag then it's not getting shaved. I'm sure that they'll get over it.

  • i will be unwaxed (because i could care less.  the idea of getting out, making an appointment, paying the money... i am past caring) and unshaven (because i can't see a damn thing anymore.  i'm not interested in shaving off an important lady part.)

    trimmed? yes.

maybe i should put it on my birth plan:  "Nurses, you are about to be dealing with a kinda hairy woman."  Then they can get the talking out of the way ahead of time.

    Confused

Our hospital isn't a teaching hospital, but I know several L&D and NICU nurses from highschool.  I do not want someone looking at my vag that I had history class with... or will have to see at reunion event.

  • Maybe I missed something, but I don't think she was saying that it was professional to do it, just that it happens.

  • Yes, when I go into labor the first thing on my mind will be how I can shave quickly.  Confused

Good god!  It took me over 30 min last time I did it, and I am willing to bet that I will be just slightly bigger when I am ready to pop this kid out!  Plus, I was in labor with DD for OVER 24 HOURS - I doubt by hour 24 I smelled good.  I certainly hope this chick doesn't work near me.

I think it was the irony of saying something like "as a member of the healthcare profession."

    This!

  • Ok, total lurker, but I worked in OB as an MA for four years before staying at home with my son. I can guarantee you that we have seen it all, and are NOT laughing at you behind your backs. If anything, my coworkers and I had a lot of empathy for some of the embarrassing and painful things that some women have to experience.

This. It's not like I'm likely to see most of them again anyway.

I just panicked a little. Hope this never happens.

  • Have to laugh at this...  I've been to 250+ deliveries in the past few years (I'm the one the new baby is handed to after a c/s or meconium delivery, etc).  Pooping on the table, shaving or lack thereof, NOT A PROBLEM.  But, yes, really horrid BO from not showering for weeks prior will get talked about.  Maybe 1-2 deliveries I've seen fall into the "gross" category, and mom was usually addicted to drugs and showering was not among her priorities.  But not being waxed/trimmed?  Honestly, I don't think I've ever noticed.  And I see poopy diapers and vomit all day.  Most medical personnel are going to talk more about you if you are mean to us.
