Do you cook a different meal if yh is gone?

DH is going to be late (like 7pm). I had hamburgers and potato sald planned, but now that I know he won't be here for dinnertime I'm thinking hotdogs and fruit. I feel like I'm shortchanging ds out of a normal dinner, but mh usually does the grilling. Am I the only one?

  • The fact that you have hotdogs and fruit as another option I find amazing. I have been so bad about cooking lately that I don't even have hotdogs in my house.

  • Haha! No! You're not the only one!  It's mac-n-cheese for us tonight for that very reason.
  • If DH isn't eating with us, then I just make PB&J or mac and cheese or something like that and we eat it in front of the TV. I try to make it fun since DS misses DH when he isn't home on time. I'm not going to make a big meal if it's just the two of us.

  • Yep.  If DH isn't home, I make something for DS and usually just have cereal.  I hate cooking a big meal if he isn't home to help eat it.

yes. I eat totalshit when DS is away.  Box mac n cheese, tater tots.  I LOVE it!

  • Yes! And my DH is OOT at least 4 nights/week, so I rarely have to cook a "real" meal. DD does eat well when he's gone - I'm the one who eats all the junk.

  • Yes, absolutely. I love having breakfast for dinner.  And it ticks me off if I think he's not going to be home and then a couple hours before dinnertime his plans change and he will be home. Argh.
  • Yes, we have "kid food" all week.  My kids are in heaven the weeks my H is gone.  I see no point in cooking a large meal for my two picky eaters and myself when I know that I will be the only one eating it.
