Had my NT scan yesterday and it was so cool seeing the baby stretch out and kick its feet. I live in a small town and the only person that performs the NT scan is the high risk doctor (only 1) in our town. Anyway, while the scan went well, (she said the nasal bones were highly developed--which is a good sign of no gentic defects--and the baby's neck was pretty skinny) she had some very shocking news after learning I had graves disease prior to having radioactive iodine, destroying my Thyroid and subsequently becoming Hypothyroid.
Apparently there is a risk that for women with graves disease, the baby can develop a goiter on its Thyroid/throat and suffocate itself or something like that while in the womb. There is a blood test she gave me yesterday to determine if I was at risk for this occurring. She said that if I was, I'd have to take PTU for the baby and Synthroid for myself to keep the baby from developing the goiter. Just an FYI for you graves ladies as I wasn't told this from my regular OBGYN nor was I informed of this from my endocrinologist.
