1st Trimester

Gotta love all the cramps...

With the cramping I get from stretching, cramping from a gas bubble, cramping from being constipated and the cramping in my back... is there anything else that I missed???

I get cramps so bad at night from my ligaments stretching and I can never get comfortable enough to fall asleep. So I just toss and turn and I'm sure it drives my DH crazy but he does not say anything, well yet!

Then of course you have the gas bubble, those are a killer!! My main concern is being constipated. It sucks, I feel horrible and tired all the time...

Has anyone else been getting twitching in their backs or a pinch?? Do you think it would be safe to go to my chiropractor?? I don't want to have to ask my DH all the time for back rubs, he is doing so much for me right now! I know he enjoys it, but I hate asking for things all the time...

Is anyone going through all this at once like I am?

Any tricks or something just to ease the pain??

  • I would ask your chiropractor if he thinks it's safe.  I remember watching "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" a few weeks back and the lady had back pains so she went to her chiropractor.  After she had the baby her chiropractor came on and said had he known she was preggers at the time he could have done some other adjustments to help the progress of her pregnancy.  So after hearing that I'm guessing there's got to be some sort of adjustement that is safe.  I'd just make sure the doctor you go to is specialized in prenatal care.

Adjustments are safe during pregnancy, just make sure your doctor knows you are pregnant. My chiro says she doesn't do much different besides a slight variation in the lumbar adjustments and she won't use the deep tissue massager on me because of the intense vibration.

  • I didn't experience any cramps until this week -- then all of a sudden, I had some really bad gas/constipation cramps... and they suck! I'm sorry you are feeling it, too. Hopefully this stuff will start easing up in the 2nd tri!
  • Hey! We have the same due date! I get my first ultrasound tomorrow. I am soo excited!!

Oh but that is sooo far away....
  • Cramps are also due to a normal cyst which forms on your ovary (corpus luteum) - it temporarily delivers hormones to your body when you first become pregnant.  It disappears on its own around 8 weeks.

  • I am getting a lot of cramping too, and it is worse at night. Some of it is clearly just gas, but I'm not sure what the rest of it is. I'm hoping just round ligament pain, but in the back of my mind I'm a little concerned about it. I find it feels a lot menstrual cramping except it usually lasts for less than 30 seconds at a time then goes away. Sometimes it is actually pretty painful though. I keep thinking I MUST be bleeding but I'm not. Is anyone else experiencing this or have any thoughts about it?
  • If the pinch in your back is near where your bra band is, then it is most likely gas. I had terrible pain high up between where my bra hooks and my shoulder blade. It brought me to tears. I tried heating pads, tylenol, stretching. When I told my midwife at an appointment,  the midwife said it was most likely gas...i had no idea gas pains could be up that high, but a few tums and it went away.
