What do you think was necessary to put in your hospital bag? I'm finding lists online that are pages and pages long and since you ladies have all been there, what do you think is necessary to have? TIA!
Clothes to go home in for you and your LO and a camera. Everything else you can get from the hospital. You are paying them enough to be there, use their stuff. I didnt use 95% of what I took with me.
My bag had a set of pj's and a robe, slippers, travel sized shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc., my Boppy pillow, and a coming home outfit. I did not feel it necessary for all that other stuff, but I was only there 2 days...
I also had DD's diaper bag, with a coming home outfit for her, my hospital provided everything that I needed for her while we were there, and if there was something I needed, I sent family/DH to get it...
Things I actually used in the hospital were my own clothes and my toiletries, everything else I could have left at home. I brought movies to watch during delivery and we never even really watched the TV because I was in too much pain.
I think it would have been different if DD hadn't been in the NICU because we spent every waking minute down there, but the things that I found most useful were the things listed above also a going home outfit for baby and Slippers that you can trhow away since hospitals are gross, I got a pair at target for $5. Also A camcorder ( if you have one) and a camera, we recorded everything (well except the actual birth) so that DD can see what she went through in her first 8 days since it is part of her story.
Of everything I packed, I used my flip flops, toothbrush, my coming home outfit and DS's coming home outfit.
They have everything else you need. You will be bleeding and gross and they will be checking you every day so it's just easier to stay in the undies and hospital gown they provide.
I used tolietries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, deo., makeup), robe, going home outfit for me and baby, fuzzy socks, tv shows on dvd (I was in labor a long time). I think that's it.
Our hospital didn't provide any tolietries so I needed to bring my own shampoo, soap, toothbrush, etc so you'll want to check with yours to see what they provide. I had a c/s so I was there for 3 nights. Besides my own tolietries, I used:
What I used for me: robe, socks, slippers, toiletries, camera (extra batteries), laptop (and charger), cell phone (and charger), a magazine and something comfy to wear home. You may also want a notebook to jot down your labor experience, baby's stats, who brought gifts, or other info you want to remember.
For baby: comfy going home outfit and also an outfit to take pictures in (my hospital had a photographer come to our room and take pics however you want).
-Outfit for going home (for you and baby). -Tooth brush (for you and DH) -Camera -Cell Phone -Sports bra/built in bra tank - this was nice to wear under the robe. the tank top felt good to "hold" in my belly. Its a very strange feeling -Chapstick -Baby book (We brought the book, "On The Night You Were Born" and had everyone who came to visit sign it - kind of like a year book. We then had everyone who came the first few weeks. It turned out great and something we will always cherish.) -Change of clothes for DH
Things to leave at home: -comfy clothes - I brought a couple pairs of pants, underwear, etc. thinking I would wear them. Yeah right....you will most likely bleed more than you think. Just wear what the hosp. gives you. YOu will have PLENTY of days to wear those clothes at home. - tons of socks - again just wear theirs. -Diapers, blankets, or anything else for the baby. Hosp give plenty.
All I used from mine was my toothbrush, hairbrush, hair band and clip, slippers, robe, and going home outfits for me and DS. Everything else was a waste.
Lansinoh Lanolin cream (the hospital was very stingy with that), my own pillow (i actually brought my snoogle- and it was GREAT for a pillow for me and to wrap around for BF'ing) a fleece I could throw on, pj's (or yoga pants and tees), camera/laptop/cell phone and chargers, a pad and pen (i kept track of nursing and diapers this way so when they asked I didn't have to think). Travel toiletries for the shower (that first shower is heaven!)

Re: Realistic hospital bag?
Toothbrush & going home outfits for me and baby
That's all I used from what I brought.
My bag had a set of pj's and a robe, slippers, travel sized shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc., my Boppy pillow, and a coming home outfit. I did not feel it necessary for all that other stuff, but I was only there 2 days...

I'd add slippers and a robe to throw over your gown to the toothbrush and clothes to go home in
I did use my nursing tank and pj pants this time, but I had no tearing, etc so no one was checking me down there.
Honestly all I really needed was my toiletries, they give you everything else, including slipper socks, pads, mesh undies, etc.
Things I actually used in the hospital were my own clothes and my toiletries, everything else I could have left at home. I brought movies to watch during delivery and we never even really watched the TV because I was in too much pain.

flip flops for the shower
robe for walking the halls
granny panties
breast friend or boppy for breastfeeding
pillow since the hospital's stink
toothbrush, toothpaste. facewash
going home outfit for you and baby
camera
Of everything I packed, I used my flip flops, toothbrush, my coming home outfit and DS's coming home outfit.
They have everything else you need. You will be bleeding and gross and they will be checking you every day so it's just easier to stay in the undies and hospital gown they provide.
I also used my make up/lotion/shower stuff and boppy!! lanolin for those sore nips!!
I never used my slippers. Just wore flip flops to hospital and used those.
I did use my soft thin robe quite a bit because I just wore hospital gowns the whole time.
I was also glad we brought some 100 cal pack cheez its to snack on.
good luck!!!!!

*chapstick
*hair dryer
*slippers
*robe
*boppy
*going home outfit for me/LO
*camera
*my own pillow
Comfy clothes for me (that is all I wore)
Take home outfit for baby
Toothbrush & paste
Shampoo & body wash & hair ties
Camera & extra batteries
Camcorder
Cell phone chargers
Good luck!!

-Going home outfit for you and baby
-comfy shorts and tshirt for you to wear while u are there
-comfy socks
-nursing bra/nursing nightgown
-toiletries
-cell phone charger
- a couple of snacks if you are a picky eater
thats it! everything else u wont use.
These are the things I was glad I brought:
Comfortable pjs - I loved getting out of that hospital gown the next day!
Comfortable lounge clothes for in the hospital - see above
Overnight pads - the ones in hospital sucked
My own shampoo, conditioner, body-wash - it was SO nice to take a hot shower with good products
Medela nursing sleep bra - SO comfortable that I lived in it for about two weeks (you may want more than one!)
A spiral notebook to write down everything: how much I was nursing, questions I thought of, answers to questions, etc.
An outfit for DD to come home in. Don't bother bringing clothes for LO to wear when you're in the hospital.
Other than that, the hospital gave me what I needed. Good luck!!
