If you make your own coffee

What brand do you use? I'm just now starting to buy my own instead of doing starbucks every day. I bought Target's archer farms fair trade/organic coffee. It's pretty good, but I'd like to try some other stuff, too. There are so many options out there, I don't even know where to start! I picked that because I was at Target and it was on sale.

Also, is it better if you grind as you go instead of grinding the whole bag?

  • Right now, I am drinking maxwell house because DH's gma bought it. I like dunkin donuts and Starbucks the best.

  • I love Trader Joe's. ?THey have delicious coffee in a HUGE can that is nicely priced. ?I buy the whole bean and grind fresh every day. ?If you buy it ground, or have it ground when you buy it, I'd store it in the freezer.
  • right now I am drinking starbucks  (brewed at home), but normally I like Costco coffee.
  • Right now we are using Dunkin Donuts because that is what DH likes. It's already ground because we don't have a grinder and we keep it in the freezer.
  • We drink 8 O'clock coffee-- it was rated one of the best out there for flavor, and it's reasonably priced.

We buy both ground and whole bean. We've got a grind and brew coffee maker, so when we use whole bean, it's ground right before it's brewed.

  • Bustello.  Much beloved by the latinos (and cheap at walmart).  ;-)  I don't care for other brands.  Starbucks tastes burnt to me and Maxwell House is so weak.
  • We buy whole beans from a local coffee roaster (free trade, organic) and grind right before making it each day. We recently bought a french press and ditched the drip coffee maker. The french press makes a HUGE difference!

  • plain old folgers house here.

I LOVE our french press, but DH isn't a big fan. ?I make my coffee with it, though (unless I"m making espresso). ??

  • I like Dunkin' Donuts...and also have a grind and brew-so I can just grind what I need.

A great cheap grocery store coffee is choc full o' nuts.  It's always on sale and is really good!

  • I have a Cuisinart Grind 'n Brew (i so wish it was the stainless steel one too) and I get Starbucks House Blend and let my machine grind the beans.  For my Starbucks Via Venezia, I buy their Italian Roast extra bold and have them espresso grind it for me.  Since I've been doing it myself for so long now, when I do go to Starbucks, I just end up getting a latte with an extra two shots because anything else just tastes too sweet.
  • we use caribou coffee. it's great! :)

  • We buy Caribou house blend.  They have it at a few Targets around here, but we usually get it in 3 lb bags from Sams Club.  We also buy whole bean and grind every morning.

I've become a total coffee snob.  I'm completely addicted, can barely function without coffee in the morning, and yet I can barely choke down the cheap brands (Folgers, 8 o'clock, maxwell house, etc).

This just may make me want to get a sam's club membership. ?I LOVE caribou!?

  • Caribou! And every so often some fair trade we buy through our church. Cannot remember the name of it though.

  • My favorite is Alterra, which is a local brand. Otherwise I like Caribou.

Its best to grind as you go, but its just as important to get the right grind and use the right amount of grounds to water.

  • I like Seattles Best.  But I'm kind of tired of it and looking for a new brand.  I might have to try the Caribou!

  • I buy the big bags of Starbucks at Costco.  If I had my druthers, Chicago has a local coffee place named Intelligensia that does free trade coffee and it is soooo good (and $13/lb sigh)

This...and we love it....and we are coffee snobs.  I did not like Dunkin donuts (too sour tasting/acidic or something)....I don't care for Starbucks (tastes like mud).

But We both really like the 8 O'clock Coffee and it's cheaper than a lot of the brands.

Ditto both of these.  We normally buy whole bean and ground it ourselves.
