Using Different Brands of Formula?

So, I have all of these sample containers of formula. Is it okay to try all of them and not just to stick to one kind? I asked my doctor and she said it would almost be like when I am breastfeeding and eating different things every day and my milk would taste different.

I just wanted to see what you guys think about it?

Thanks!

I might mix them together with your regular formula and do half and half or something.

DS has a much stronger stomach now, but when he was about 2m old, we had to give him Enfamil instead of his usual Similac one night (long story). He - usually an excellent sleeper and a happy baby - was up for HOURS crying his little heart out. All we could think of was that it was a tummyache from the different formula.

We haven't tried it since.  And I would def. be careful about giving soy formulas if your LO is used to milk-based.

  • I've used a variety with both kids and haven't had any problems. If the containers are small then combine them that way it tastes the same for awhile. I did that with a couple of free cans I received. DD gets what ever I can find the best deal on and she doesn't seem to mind.
  • I used to worry about it when I first weaned but now that he's older and hasn't shown any reactions from anything I just feed him store brand formula.  My pedi also said it didn't make much difference unless you're comparing different varieties, like soy vs. gentle vs. regular.

  • Thanks. That all makes sense! Why shouldn't you give them soy if they are used to milk based?
