How much light in baby's room?

Ok, I keep a lamp on ovenight in DD's room.  DH thinks it's too much - that we should have just a night light on in there, at the most.  (He isn't the one who gets up with her in the night, and has to locate the pacifier, or change diapers, etc.)

So, just curious - how much light do you have on in your LO's room overnight?

Re: How much light in baby's room?

  • We keep DS's room very dark - it's the only way he'll sleep!! No night lights or anything for us.

  • we keep it dark with a low light night light so we can see

  • DD sleeps in a bassinet in our room and I use a night light.  It is mainly so I can see in the middle of the night when I have to get up and change her and feed her.

  • I use to keep a nightlight on, but found that she sleeps much better in the dark.  Now I turn on the bathroom light across the hall if I need to go in there...it's just enough without being too bright.

  • Daytime sleeping is in normal light but night time sleeping is completely dark. No nightlight. Although, the monitor has a light blue glow.

I am able to change diapers without light - if it is a BM then I may turn on a nightlight but immediately shut it off once he is clean. I try to keep any stimulation to a min. I can locate a paci without light but we rarely use it.

I think your DH is right but you all have to find what is right for your LO. The less amount of stimulation the better they may sleep.

  • the little light on the monitor is enough for us to locate him in his crib, otherwise nothing.
  • Just the light from the baby crack machine projector.

  • DS is still sleeping in our room, but I leave the light on in the hall bathroom with the door like 2/3 closed.  It's just enough light for me to see for diapers, nursing, etc.
  • We use a nightlight that's right next to the door which is in between her crib and the changing table.  It's not super bright, but I can see plenty enough to change her, find stuff, etc.
