I have read so many different things saying absolutely no coffee or caffeine and I have also read several things that say one 8 oz. cup of caffeinated coffee is actually good for your baby, just don't over do it. So which is it? I'm confused.
Talk to your doctor. I have read the same conflicting info that you have. I just avoid all caffeine just to be on the safe side. I was never big on coffee but I was a SERIOUS Pepsi addict. Every day I think about a nice, ice cold glass of Pepsi, but I dont want to take any chances.
Never heard that it could be good for baby. However with all the potential risks I've pretty much given up on coffee. I'm saving my caffine for dark chocolate.
I think for most of us it's just a personal choice. I'll break down and have a cup here or there I'm sure, but for the most part I'm giving it up.
i would have a small coffee here and there, and i do still eat chocolate...I just cut back to what I normally would drink/eat. I am surprised at how much i don't miss coffee ( i use to get a large every morning at dd) now I get a decaf tea
I was a regular double tall every morning with a venti black iced tea most afternoons!
At my pre-conception consultation my dr said that it's best to just cut it out for the 1st 10 weeks to be safe. The week I went off the pill we were on a vacation so I figured it was the perfect time to cut back. I got single-shot drinks at the start of the week, worked down to a ristretto (1/2) shot and when I got home I switched to 1/2 caf. When I got a BFP I was able to stop completely.
Not drinking it at all here, because I think it must do some crazy stuff to your body to have given me and my husband such horrible withdrawal symptoms. I forgot to have any coffee (normally 1 cup) or soda (maybe 5 a day) on my first day of a family vacation, and I had to skip dinner that night because I had to be in a room, with all the lights off, with a washcloth on my head, and no sound. When I decided to quit after that, my husband followed suit, and it turns out that if he now "cheats" he will get severe heart palpitations! Needless to say, he doesn't cheat anymore. We're both young, and healthy, so this is not an age thing either.
It's a drug like any other, so I'm not subjecting myself, or our baby, to it.
