Infertility Q

My DH and I did IVF to conceive our two little miracles!! These are our first children and we really want to have more children in the future...

Just wondering, has anyone conceived spontaneously after using IVF or fertility treatments (for their next pregnancy/pregnancies)? It's like I hear of stories in mags or websites or wherever of couples who struggled with infertility (like my DH and I have) and then they suprisingly became PG again without undergoing treatments like they did the first baby/babies. I am prepared to do IVF again in the future, but am hoping that there is also a chance I too might be able to conceive spon.

Or, has anyone gone through IVF and/or fertility meds that could share their experiences of going through it again for their next pregnancies?

Granted, my twins haven't even arrived yet but I am just wondering if anyone on the board is in similar shoes?? It's not the typical type Qs I post here, but just hoping maybe someone/people might be able to relate?

Thanks for sharing, ladies! I appreciate it!

I have been lurking on this board lately after my high betas from my frozen embryo transfer of two...but I will stop lurking and post to this one :)

I did IVF to conceive my daughter... I too hoped that pregnancy would 'fix' me and that I wouldn't need help again.  I have PCOS and don't ovulate on my own and have crazy long cycles... unfortunately for me my cycles were still long and unpredictable so I went back to the RE.  I got pregnant again with FET #1 but miscarried and now I am pregnant again from FET#2.  It has definitely been easier trying for #2...partly I'm sure because I have my daughter at home and she brings such happiness and therefore I don't spend as much time thinking about other things... plus the frozen transfers are SO much easier!

Anyways...I think it depends on what your diagnosis is for your chances of getting pregnant again without help... but of course it does happen!

  • I should have mentioned that initially---

I was diagnosed as "unexplained infertility." I had hypothalmic amenhorrea (stopped getting my period all together). I didn't respond at all to Clomid (50 mg and then 150 mg); I was a very high responder to injectibles (did Follistim, then Repronex, then Menopur)--none of my injectibles + IUIs were successful though. So, we did IVF #1 and got PG with our miracles.

I appreciate the posts, please keep em coming!! THANKS

  • My friend did IVF when she was pg with her two boys.  6 weeks post partum and an oops.
  • We did not get pg on our own, but were successful with fertility treatments for #2 (and 3!). Our fresh IVF cycle gave us Rhett. Then we did a frozen transfer and are pregnant with twin boys, due next month. I agree with pp that it was easier the second time around, both because I already had my son and because I knew what to expect. Our diagnosis was male factor infertility, so we know getting pregnant on our own is a long shot.

  • We used IVF to have our twins - male factor and PCOS were our issues.  We were told we had virtually no chance of getting PG on our own.  So after the twins were born I thought it was ridiculous to go on birth control.  Besides, if a miracle did happen we would be thrilled.  Imagine our surprise when I was spontaneously PG when the boys were 15 months old!  We were shocked beyond belief but soooo over the moon happy.

Before we were PG with #3 I thought about whether we would try to have another baby but the thought of going through the rigors of IVF again was daunting.  We didn't have any embies left over to freeze the first go round but what if we did the next time?  Would we be able to use them all?  For some reason that thought really bothered me.

Luckily we didn't have to go that route. But I NEVER thought I'd be one of those stories!  Smile

  • ME!!!  We were unexplained and after 2.5 yrs of tttc (4 failed IUIs), our boys were conceived w/ IVF #1.

SURPRISE!  Guess I'm not infertile anymore b/c I'm pregnant spontaneously w/out charting, trying and even really WANTING a baby at the moment.  But, we're thrilled.  Guess the pg kick started by lazy body :).  I think it's more likely to happen when you're unexplained.

  • I was on clomid and did an IUI to get my triplets, out of the blue with out trying and not thinking about having another baby, we are expecting baby #4 this Feb.
