With Maren, she was a year old. With Blake, it was around 11-11.5 months. My freezer stash was gone and on the days I wasn't able to BF, we either needed to supplement with cow's milk or formula. I thought giving him formula for 2-3 weeks, just to switch him to cow's milk anyway was silly and my ped agreed. So we started weaning the cow's milk in between BF'ing sessions until eventually he was completely on cow's milk by 13-ish months.
my pedi is pretty lax about stuff, but he was adamant as close to a year as possible. he said if we ran out of formula a week or two early that was okay, but as close to a year as we can do it.
I bf Elysabeth but because I work I needed to supplement, so we used formula...Right around 8 1/2 months she did not want milk. With the exception of when she nursed in the morning, and nursed before bed which was followed with a bottle of formula she did not want any milk. We started giving her cheese, yogurt...andthing that could be considered a milk "supplement". When she went in for her 9 mo visit, the dr said to switch her to regular milk to see if it was a taste thing. She even suggested adding Ovaltine to it if she still wouldn't drink it. We switched her over and she has not had any problems...she doesn't really drink any more milk so it was not a taste thing, not even chocolate milk. But she is doing well. And DH loves the fact that we are not throwing away expensive formula!
We started a sippy here and there at 10.5 months. It was just to get her used to it and for when I wasn't around (she wouldn't take a bottle, only boob). She wasn't exclusively on milk until I weaned her at 13 months. Pedi said it was fine at 10 months if she was a good eater (she was).
