photoshop experts

I don't have PS so I have no clue of the editing possibilities...

If you have 2 pics, almost indentical frames - 1 pic someone has eyes closed, in the next photo they are looking up - can you swap the eyes opened person into the first frame? The positioning is almost identical in both pics, it literally is just eyes closed to open being the only difference. If this is possible, is it a difficult edit? esp. for a beginner if I buy the software? Thanks :)

Re: photoshop experts

  • I'm not an expert, but I know it is possible.  I think it would be less difficult than switching an entire face/head, but still not terribly easy to make it look just right.

ETA: You can download a free version of Photoshop at www.gimp.org.  (It is the Linux version of PS, but is available for free for any operating system).

  • Loading the player...
  • Yes, it is possible.  It sounds like in that situation, it would be really easy.  It totally depends on the photo, though.  I hate doing it, but I have switched out half of a body even in sibling shots because they can be really hard with little kids.
  • YAY! I'm so glad it is do-able (albeit a bit difficult) I have a pic of the girls where 1 has eyes closed in one, and then the next frame the baby has eyes closed but my older DD is open  ahhh! It is a great shot I may use for this year's Xmas cards so I want to try and make the edit :) Thanks girls!

I would use the round lasso with a slight feather to select the entire face just inside the hair and above the chin on the eyes open pic, then paste it into the bad pic and match up the nose and mouth.  Decrease the opacity of the copied layer while you're doing this so that you can see well enough to get it right on with the original.

It's pretty simple on a photo like you described.

  • Joseys - Thanks for the instructions! Best of luck to you in the upcoming days :) Your daughter reminds me of my older DD, esp. the honey blonde hair and big blue eyes. So cute!

Firefightersgal - which program do I need to DL? I went to the gimp site and couldn't find PS specifically, do I need to DL gimp2.6.0?

  • The program is actually called GIMP, so DL the newest version for your operating system.
