How much is average preschool in your area? Will your DC be going to none, one, or two years of preschool? Daycare moms do you plan on enrolling DC in a separate preschool? Working moms, how does your child get to and from preschool? If you're non-religious, would you take you DC to a church preschool (really my only options in my town)? Any other thoughts?
Re: Preschool questions for everyone.
I can't remember how much preschool costs here in Mayberry. There are two. One is Good Sam's (Christian) and one is Head Start. DD will have to go for two years because of having an October birthday, starting with 2 half-days a week.
ETA: Most people I know have their kids go to Good Sam's. I haven't heard much at all about Head Start (other than it is income/need based first). I could haul her into town and have a ton of choices, but I'll just have her go here so that she can be with the same kids she'll go grade school with.
-Price depends on how often the child goes, the more days (or half days), the more it is
-Jackson will likely go to 3 years of preschool. His birthday is one day past the cut off date in TN (where we're moving), and he'll likely do some form of preschool this school year (maybe 2 mornings a week). Then next year he'll be 3 turning 4, and go a few more mornings and then the final year he'll be 4 turning 5 and go to a pre-k program, I think.
-I'm not non-religious, but Jackson has gone to a Lutheran MMO program (we're Catholic). It was no big deal to me, since it was only occasional bible stories and activities that were fairly in line w/ our beliefs.
Are there any Montessori schools around you? That would be another option.
DD is in an 'academically enriched' daycare, so she is already enrolled in junior pre-school. It is $1550/month.
Next year she will be in junior pre-school, than junior-k, than k.
I drop her off at 8 and DH picks her up around 5 (long day... sigh...)
I wouldn't have a problem taking her to a relgios preschool as long as it didn't teach something that I completely didn't believe it.
$ - I'm not sure, I haven't looked into it.
She'll most likely start when she's 3 yo.
P/u and d/o - good questions and one i haven't thought of yet. Crap.
I'm not non-religious either but it wouldn't bother me to take her to a church preschool. I went to one like that growing up and loved it.

DD will only go for 1 year. She can start Kindergarten at 4 as her b-day is early November, and she will.
We will be paying only 140.00 a month for 3 3 hr days.
My cousin actually watches dd while I work, so she will drop off and pick up. I will pay her the same as I do now with the lesser hours to compensate for gas/driving.
Everything here is priced for a full school year, and depends on how often you go. My son's 3s program was around $3k for the year (3 half days).
My son did two years (3s and 4s) and then will start kindergarten.
It's really hard to find a secular preschool around here. We are non religious, but he went to a synagogue preschool.
1. The ones I like for DD are around $2000/year, I think.
2. DS went to two years. He started when he was 4 and did the second year when he was five. He has a July b-day and I waited until he had already turned 6 to send him to Kinder so I waited on preschool as well. DD will also go two years--when she is 3 for two days/week and when she is 4 for 3 days/week.
3. When DS was in preschool I was working and in school. The first year he went to a two day/week preschool and an in home babysitter. He went to the same preschool as two other kids at his sitter so the sitter did drop off and pick up for all three. We moved the next year and DS went to an all day daycare/preschool.
4. I am religious. All kids have/will go to a religious preschool.
Average preschool is around $3000. (Private that is)
They will be going to preschool for 1 year. At least that is the plan for dd.
I will be driving dd to preschool. DH will probably pick her up.
Non religious, I am, but still want dd to have that schooling. The stuff they do with them at this age is just fun learning stuff that has religion incorporated.
Other thought - if you are just sending dc to private preschool will they continue the religion aspect in CCD or something else or no?
We are planning on sending dc's to private preschool and sending them to ccd for their further religion education.
Prices vary wildly in our city (MCOL). From like 150$/month for church based ones that are pretty relaxed (not a formal curriculum) to Montesorri centers that are like 600$+.
DS is currently in a Mont. daycare. If I am a SAHM by the tiem he is3, he will got to 2 years of preschool. We are not religious at all, but he will probably go to a church preschool simply bc they are so much cheaper. I am not big on him "learning" a lot before kindy- I mostly just want him to be around other kids and have fun. I am not worried about them teaching him to pray, or anything like that. I figure at age 3-4 its not like he is really going to internalize religious teachings.
How much is average preschool in your area? We looked at schools that were between $1300 - $1800 a month -- which is mid-range in my area for a full-time program.
Will your DC be going to none, one, or two years of preschool? 2 years of preschool
Daycare moms do you plan on enrolling DC in a separate preschool? My daycare doesn't have a preschool so we have no choice.
Working moms, how does your child get to and from preschool? We enrolled in a full-time program. It runs from 8 am to 5 pm, same as his daycare.
If you're non-religious, would you take you DC to a church preschool (really my only options in my town)? I would take my DC to any church-based preschool except for a "Born-Again" or "Bible Teaching" church. In my experience (my dad & his entire family falls in this category), those schools are not tolerant of other opinions & are very agressive in getting you to convert.
It's 160/month for 2 half days/week through our school district
I'm a working mom, but wfh 2 days/week and those are the days he's doing preschool. If I was in office everyday, I would probably just stick to daycare and not do preschool.
I would do a church preschool if that was my best option.
There are only private preschools in our area. DD was in an MDO last year but will be in a preschool this coming year. She will have three years of preschool because she misses the cutoff by 3 days. She will be in the 3 year old class this year and thend do two years of preK with different teachers.
I pay $250 a month for three days a week from 8:30-2:30. There is a $200 reg fee and a $200 supply fee.
DD goes to preschool at our church.
DD''s preschool is right in the middle as far as cost. Daycares with preschools are much more, church MDOs are much less.
Ds will be going to preschool (they actually call it mom's morning out at this age) starting in August. He'll be in a 12-24 month age class. He'll go two mornings per week from 9:30-12:30. It's at a Methodist church (although we don't go there - we are Christians - we just haven't found a church home yet). It's $140/mth plus $125 registration fee for the two day program at his age. I work full time. My dh will drop him off in the morning and our nanny will pick him up at 12:30. I think he's going to LOVE it because he never gets to be around other kids and he's bored to death just staying at home with the nanny and us.
The preschool has a program where he can go two days a week this year, three days next year, four days next year and five days the next year. Not sure how will be able to balance more school and keep our nanny at the same time since she needs a certain level of income and I don't want to keep paying her the same thing if he's going to be going to school more and more (but we need to have her for the summer, when he's sick, holidays, etc).
