Did anyone else hate the Hangover?

I usually love movies like that. Loved Superbad, Wedding Crashers, Knocked Up, Old School is my favorite movie. I should have known I was going to hate the Hangover when I didn't even crack a smile at the preview, but I saw it anyway because I love comedies and everyone gave it rave reviews. I HATED it! Not only did I only think maybe 3 parts in the whole movie were even worth a chuckle, but I found the whole thing to be disturbing, with no funny lines or likeable characters.

Schoolteachers who steal money from children to go to Vegas... hookers who leave their baby in a closet during a drunken night, forget where they are, but don't seem the slightest bit concerned the next day, and we're supposed to think she was a sweet, nice person...a baby gets smashed in the face with a door and that's supposed to be one of the funniest parts of the movie...dads who curse in front of their children and think nothing of it...

Maybe I'm more sensitive because I'm having a baby, but the whole thing just disgusted me and wasn't funny at all.

Even my DH, who definitely thinks immaturity is funny usually, could only comment at the end that the whole part with the baby really upset him.  He did think it was funnier than I did and had funny parts, but was really disappointed overall that it wasn't better than it was after all the hype.

Anyone else NOT like it?

  • Wow, I must be REALLY insensitive... cuz I laughed my as$ off during the baby parts :/

I thought it was a funny movie. ?I actually saw it twice that weekend it came out. ?First one with my mom and aunt (who both loved it too). ?Second time with my boyfriend.

However, I can definitely see how some people might not like it.?

  • I want to see it, but I'm finding myself more sensitive to baby situations too.  So I think I'll hold off until it comes out on DVD.  I'm usually a big fan of those movies too.

  • I went with my mom (it was her pick) and she hated it!  I thought it was okay but the baby parts disturbed me too.  Especially leaving the baby in the car alone and not even having a car seat.  I think guys liked this movie more.  Plus once it gets too hyped it never is as good as you think it will be.  I went in thinking the movie was going to suck and left thinking it was okay, we saw it opening weekend.

There are too many things like this to even mention that were disturbing, but that's another good one.  They left a baby inside a car alone in Vegas in the summer with a window cracked.  The baby was crying and screaming and upset, and driving around with a seatbelt while they jumped curbs, crashed into buildings and other cars and drove through signs.

Seriously?  I'm supposed to think that's funny?  Really?????  I was almost in tears wanting to save that baby from those disgusting pigs.

  • I thought it was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a really long time.  I can't imagine taking the baby parts seriously.  The best part, for me, was that laughing so hard made my baby kick me almost throughout the whole movie.  Big Smile

Apparently me too. I thought it was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. I wasn't reading to much into the movie, those scenes are suppose to be retardedly funny because they are acting so stupid and careless. But I guess that is just my view point.

I def agree!!  Its a movie..

  • I didn't like the movie AT ALL for the same reasons. What I found most disturbing was the part when that stupid guy was pretending the baby was jacking off. So stupid. It's possible the pregnancy horomones have turned me into being prude but whatever.

This. I will not be seeing Bruno. My friend was describing it to me and NO!! The Hangover was okay though... a little drawn out.

  • i went w/1 of my girlfriends and we thought it was hilarious. i'm a fan of all of the movies you listed and more. my dh saw it w/the guys and they all loved it as well. we're going to definitely buy it on dvd.

  • I was extremely disappointed after hearing everyone sound how hiliarious it was... I haven't found humor in stuff like that... well, I don't think I ever did. How funny is a baby pretending to jerk himself off? It's not!
  • Thought it was hilarious!! Went to see it opening weekend and I nearly pee'd my pants. I recommended it to all of my girlfriends and everyone came back with the same reviews. I guess I'm insensitive as well. I kind of think you overanalyzed it, but to each his own.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love all other comedies and am not normally a prude. I just have to draw the line at laughing at babies who are suffering, in danger, and who are being neglected and abused. Call me crazy, that's just not funny, I don't even see how it possibly could be, it's sick. Movie or not.

Granted, I would have hated the movie even without the baby.  All of the characters were complete unlikeable idiots except the groom, who was hardly in it.  Comparing it to Old School?  PLEASE.

  • Are you kidding???  I laughed my ass off through the entire movie.

  • Eeek. Please don't become the no-sense of humor PTA mom. The movie was obviously not supposed to be realistic and extremely far-fetched. Do you think that a group of guys REALLY could steal a tiger? And that it would just chill in a hotel room? No. You have to realize the baby scenes were along the same line, and look at it with the appropriate context.

Example: Do I think choking kids as punishment is ok or funnny? No. But do I think The Simpsons is a vile show because Homer chokes Bart? No. It's fake, and it's a joke.

Yes This is not a documentary people. It is meant to be widly absurd...doesn't mean you have to find it funny, but why take it so seriously. It's meant for adults (hence the R rating) who can put it into context and not run out and do these things. I don't think anyone who doesn't laugh is a prude, but I don't think those of us who did are demented or sick.

  • I totally thought it was hilarious and recommended to all my friends.
  • Sounds like some of you ladies have your maternity panties tied in a bunch. I understand everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you saw any of the previews you should have known it wasn't going to be your style of movie. I usually hate comedies of any type but even I found this one incredibly hilarious from beginning to end. Lighten up ladies, maybe they should have inserted a disclaimer explaining that no babies were actually injured during the making of this film Geeked
